If we assume the backstop to the backstop to the cul de sac can be resolved, do we start all over again regarding the Rock?
Or do we perhaps hand it all over to the monkeys? ?

I reckon the monkeys would do a better job.

At least Gibraltar don’t have the DUP. One thing a lot of British people don’t understand is that a lot of senior DUP figures would love a hard border as they want anything that sets them further apart from Ireland. They are quite frankly nutters and it is beyond baffling that the Tories are allowing them to destroy the UK economy just like they have destroyed the NI one.

I agree that Gibraltar is pretty united in not wanting Brexit - no DUP loons.
3BlokesinaPub did an interesting (if typically rambling) vlog on YouTube on it. In Gibraltar.
I didn't realise before that Spain has Gibraltar esque protectorates in North Africa which rather alters my original "oh just give it back" attitude of my long ago teenage years.

I suspect a fudge will be easier with Gibraltar when the Govt gets round to it. Something like 96% wanted to Remain in the EU, which must be considered overwhelming in anyone's terms. I wonder if some 'sovereignty' will be conceded - just an inch or two here and there? I wonder if there are any lessons which could be learnt from handing Hong Kong back to China?

I agree with changehere, the crucial difference is that the DUP are hardcore nutcases.

BlueSpangles · 17/10/2018 10:48

Agree, there has hardly been any reference to it throughout this whole debacle Hmm

I'm with @changehere

There's all sorts of weird and wonderful things people do with pieces of land outside the norm. Zanzibar, the Vatican, Lesotho, The Isle of Man. With will it's possible. And Gibraltar has will. They want to remain, let's find a way to allow that.

NI, unfortunately doesn't have the will. It has the DUP.

I have been wondering about this too, as there will essentially be another external border.
However isn't there already a 'hard border' at Gibraltar, and not quite the same political and cultural sensitivity about one, and no equivalent of the fanatical DUP...
However could we see Spain using their power of veto if when it comes to latter stages to get a more favourable arrangement re Gibraltar from their point of view?

This is a good article about Gibraltar, even though it was written in March, about three lifetimes ago in brexit terms:
