Isn't the EU a wonderful example of accountability and transparency

Article in the Independent.

The ECJ has ruled that we aren't allowed to know about MEP's expenses because “the protection of privacy and the integrity of the individual” is more important than accountability and transparency regarding public money (about EU500m a year).
So that's OK then.Hmm

Jasjas1973 - you spent longer googling than me. My search took 30 seconds - didn't even have to type the whole sentence as Google came up with the question automatically Wink

With regard to transparency it also varies depending on the individuals in charge at the time. It isn't static. For example contrast these two positions on impact assessments:

1.	This Organisation commissioned dozens of impact assessments and immediately made them public. There were hundreds and hundreds of pages of detailed work produced by specialists with experience. These detailed reports were immediately made publicly available online from 2016 onwards. Most had been published openly and publicly by Mid 2017.

2.	The second organisation said it had done impact assessments. The honourable minister in charge said it had not done them. For some time they were Schrodinger’s impact assessments as they did and did not exist. The minister in charge lies that there had been work on the implications of Brexit on the economy, and then that there had not went on for much of 2017.By December 2017 ( 6 months after the other organisation had published their calculations and documents ) there were still no impact assessments.
The minister had to be cross examined by opposition MPs to see if any formal work had been undertaken to assess the effect before triggering Article 50. Then again following parliamentary addresses from the opposition it was conceded something would be disclosed.

Eventually, an edited mere 30 pages compiled by government economists appeared at the very end of December 2017. Deemed too sensitive and secret for the public MPs only were eventually allowed to view the dossier at Parliament. This was under strict secrecy . It was a mere 30-pages of the economic cost of Brexit. There was so much clandestine stuff MPs were not trusted but had to pass through a metal detector. No phone, no photographic or other recording equipment. Just one pen, one notebook.

Of course this showed Britain will be worse off under any Brexit scenario, devastating public finances and industry and harming the City.

Which of these organisations was more transparent and accountable ?
