Passport dilemma

When DH and I booked our summer holiday this year I noticed that my passport expires in February.
Question is do I renew it before Brexit and have a burgundy one, wait till after brexit and get a new blue one or apply for an Irish one to keep my EU citizenship? (my mum and dad are both Irish so I’m entitled to one by decent)

I'd apply before brexit for your UK EU passport and also apply for your Irish passport, that might take longer and you'll need your birth registered in Ireland I think.

Whether it's blue or burgundy doesn't affect EU citizenship. So, I'd get an Irish one for that. Personally, I'd keep your UK one as well but go for renewal asap to avoid the blue one for as long as possible. But the colour doesn't change anything at all.

Reapply for your British one, it won’t cease to be valid just because the design is changing. Also apply for your Irish, if nothing else it might save you some queuing when you first take a European holiday post Brexit.

Apply now. You are already an Irish citizen, a passport is just more convenient but may not be ready in time for your holiday given other people, including me and mine getting one - volume of applications likely to slow it down.
No one is getting a blue passport yet.
I'm old and used to have one. It's pretty but we could've had it before.

Apply now and the unexpired time will be added on to your new passport.

I'm even deliberating whether to apply 6 years early because I don't want a blue passport.

You can have a maximum of 9 months added to your 10 year passport when renewing early.

OP, if your parents were born on the island of Ireland you don’t need to register as a foreign birth first.
