I think this letter explains it all clearly - it's never going to work and it's a pipe dream.

Letter of the week on Brexit: a City’s veteran’s explosive verdict. Worth reading every word. #Brexit t.co/v0NrOElKYe

On the "other side," there is also an article about Micheal Gove telling people he thinks CEOs are "complacent" and "probably wrong" about everything.

So let's get this straight:

  • We must leave the EU to free ourselves from red tape so our businesses can thrive
  • But our businesses are headed by incompetents according to Gove (who was a journalist before going into politics, so has no actual commercial experience)
  • And our workforce is lazy and entitled, according to ex-lawyer Dominic Raab, our new Brexit Minister (www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19300051)

It doesn't hang together well, does it?

Last year Duncan Smith accused British business of becoming "lazy" due to the UK's membership of the EU.

That made me very, very angry given how hard I work and the stress I go though to make sure I can pay everyones bills.

New analysis by the Financial Times suggests that Britain has already suffered substantially depressed growth as a result of leaving the EU.

According to their analysis, "Britain's output is now around 0.9% lower than was possible if the country had voted to stay in the EU."

This equates to almost exactly £350 million less a week, the same figure that the official Brexit campaign said the UK would benefit from if it voted to leave.

Wow it is a very clear letter isn't it? I agree with his point re British businesses - how come the likes of Tesco aren't asking a lot of angry questions? He is a lot less cynical that me about MPs though.

My DH once met John Nelson in a work context and has respect for him and his judgment.

I may be pessimistic but who is going to read and respond to a one off letter in the FT though.

I may be pessimistic but who is going to read and respond to a one off letter in the FT though.

Even if it's only 100, that 100 might employ 100,000 between them ?

‘Politicians seemingly consumed with their own ambition and vanity’

Sums this mess up perfectly Sad

The above was Friday's most read letter. I liked this response:
"the problem with this debate is the number of people who profess to have the necessary knowledge and expertise to opine on matters of genuine complexity. It's like the country is undergoing brain surgery and all the doctors have been elbowed to the back whilst a random selection of patients take it in turns to have a go. I have never negotiated a trade deal but I do have instincts on whose opinion to trust, and the host of trade negotiators and experienced businessmen such as the letter writer warning of danger are far more compelling than blithe wishful commentators"
