Anyone got Italian dual citizenship?

I'm trying to apply for Italian citizenship through descent from my father, to give me options for working in the EU post-Brexit. I'm finding the Italian Consulate website BAFFLING. I think you need to book an appointment, but the phone line for this is always busy and the online slots are always unavailable. I'd love to know if anyone has successfully managed to do this? My father never registered my birth at the consulate - wish he had! - but he is registered himself and is an Italian citizen. Any advice much appreciated.

For passports you could (can’t remember of other things). Have you tried with different browsers?

Don’t think so, if she had taken up the citizenship it’d have been a different story, but...

I agree.

Has anyone used the Multilingual Standard Form when getting copies of UK birth and marriage certificates? It doubles the price of the certs, so am loathe to cough up if only an accredited translator will do according to the Italian govt.

Hi ... I have the UK multilingual copy of a birth and death certificate. I agree it does push up the cost - I paid £50 for both. You get an extra 13 pages of translations for each!

I will also need declarations that my mother/father did not renounce their citizenships from both the Home Office and National Archives as my parents moved here in the 1950's and it spans the whole period.
So all these documents plus my Canadian marriage certificate will need to be translated and legalised.
The following page explains who to use for translations before sending them all off for legalisation.

Also, the post be 'ElenaTranslations Mon 10-Sep' may be quite helpful!

Blahblah - I think it depends when she married. At certain times (in the 70s/80s?) women were automatically Italian citizens on marriage so she wouldn't have necessarily had to have applied.

13 pages teit?! Shock

Thanks, I did RTFT, honestly! So had spotted Elena's post. Just wondered if the MSF was accepted in place of translation. Probably not worth the risk of not complying with every minute detail of the process given how hard it is to get an appointment at the Consulate and the potential to lose all fees paid if paperwork isn't in order.

milnerhouse · 22/07/2019 19:01

I am getting the birth and marriage certificates translated. The originals in English are being legalised/apostilled. I have found the template for the translations if anyone wants them. I am not getting the translations legalised as they are not official documents. When l registered the birth of my son, the marriage and birth certificates were translated and accepted as they were.

Teti57 · 22/07/2019 19:29

To be fair only 6 pages are for my actual certificates translated into italian - the other 7 are a general multi-lingual translation!
The MSF should be accepted - I believe the consulate will certify the translations when they have all our documents, if we're lucky enough to ever get an appointment!
I would appreciate the template for the translations please, as I have others to do. many thanks.

I just typed in the title of the certificate in Italian and found the template.
Eg Copia auntentica di una denuncia and I found the birth certificate.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. Yes, that's very helpful - I'll check them out.

Help please!

Is it worth paying someone to help sort my Dual Citizenship? Confused

This is my situation:
I'd like to apply for dual citizenship for my children. I believe I need to firstly get dual citizenship for myself - I already hold a British passport, so I would need an Italian passport.

My father was born in Italy, and in the 1980s became a British national (I've got certificate for this).

As well as needing to get Dad's birth certificate (from a small village in Italy), and deal with the confusing paperwork via the Consulate, I'm wondering if anyone has successfully managed to pay someone to help deal with an application?

I've been putting this off for a year already, and am finding it way too confusing! Thanks for any advice!
