To think Brexit is going to turn into a huge bill of billions to pay just to get something possible not as good as the arrangement the UK has already with them?

Yanbu

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 20:42

There is an Eu referendum topic thataway --->

MaximumVolume · 11/06/2017 20:43

I agree! Have you always thought this or are you coming around to the idea now?

fakenamefornow · 11/06/2017 20:44

It's shit isn't it.

The whole world has been laughing at us ever since we voted leave.

Calyrical · 11/06/2017 20:44

They haven't.

AntiHop · 11/06/2017 20:45

Yanbu. It's madness. I hope we end up staying in the single market which will give us the same economic benefits.

Achoopichu · 11/06/2017 20:47

There are 19000 pieces of legislation that need unravelling and putting back in place. Like a huge fucking complicated jigsaw. The lawyers will win big time but the rest of us will get a worse situation for many years.

ToniMumsnet · 11/06/2017 20:49

We'll be moving this thread to EU referendum soon.

Allthebestnamesareused · 11/06/2017 21:15

YANBU but 52% decided they wanted it anyway

MrsDanversKnickers · 11/06/2017 21:17

Yanbu Sad

Topseyt · 11/06/2017 22:06

You are right, OP. That, however, is what leavers voted for and that is therefore what we are doing. Like lemons.

I live in hope that we might now try to cancel Article 50 now it has been triggered, especially after TM's spectacular own goal of a General Election. Not holding my breath though.

SweetGrapes · 11/06/2017 22:11

Apologies if this has been done elsewhere, but for a deal this big and important with far reaching impact, would it not be in the national interest to have a cross party negotiating team?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2017 22:19

Of course you're right, OP. Surely you haven't only just realised this?

Topseyt · 11/06/2017 22:40

OP now has two of these threads. The other asking whether Article 50 means we have now left the EU already and might have to pay to join it again.

OP, I am just curious. Why are you asking these questions now when they were pertinent a year ago when the referendum was about to take place?

Are you a regretful leave voter?

InfiniteSheldon · 12/06/2017 06:14

Lemmings! I'd rather be a lemming than a lemon and yes I voted Leave, it's a clusterfuck but then nobody had a plan for Leave winning. I'd be happiest with a harder sort of Brexit but any Brexit is a start.

fakenamefornow · 12/06/2017 07:55

I can't believe anyone still thinks Tory Brexit is (or ever was) a good idea. Chaos was always going to be the outcome and I don't think the pain has even started yet.

Caprianna · 12/06/2017 07:58

YANBU

LovelyBath77 · 12/06/2017 11:05

Hi no I'm a remain voter. Sorry for the different posts, I have just been thinking about it a lot recently especially with the election and wondering what might happen now. I think I had resigned myself to TM doing the hard brevet but now things seem a bit more open to other possibilities. I don't know much about it and thought some of you probably knew more.

OP posts:
Bobbydeniro69 · 12/06/2017 11:22

I'm still at a loss as to why people voted to leave the EU.

There are obviously the racists and xenophobes, but they don't make up 52% .

This idea that Great Britain is ' better' than France or Germany for instance, and therefore will be better without them, is utter arrogant madness.

The notion that we are in a somehow strong position to negotiate deals and the terms of our leaving is also incredibly arrogant. A bad deal WILL be better than no deal. No deal means economic catastrophe for us.

Short sighted nonsense based on past empire attitudes. Look at the buffoons that campaigned for it - Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Nigel Farage to name but three.

It's going to take a generation to sort it out legally anyway.

Quite frankly, I don't think it's actually going to happen.

Radishal · 12/06/2017 11:32

Comical and terrible that people are just spotting this now.
You did your bit, op , and voted Remain.

LovelyBath77 · 12/06/2017 11:37

Yes, I'm in a lib dem area as well which has just been taken back from tories. Just been catching up on the other posts- didn't realise this EU topic area was here, so will check them out now.

OP posts:
CardinalSin · 12/06/2017 11:39

YANBU. It's a total cock up. There is not a chance in hell that we're going to get a deal that is even remotely as good as the one we've thrown away, and it will probably also cost at least as much.

The country is going to be considerably poorer for the foreseeable future, our standing in the world has already plummeted, and will continue to do so, and all so a bunch of idiots and racists can chant that they've "taken back control".

LovelyBath77 · 12/06/2017 11:43

Well, I'm no expert and as you can tell new to all this, but I read the EU would possibly be keen to discuss it if they did want to stay. You never know!

OP posts:
CardinalSin · 12/06/2017 12:52

Ian Dunt @ iandunt
Good time to bring this up again: Leaving customs union expected to cost £25bn a year, leaving single market £36bn

LovelyBath77 · 12/06/2017 13:00

I was its reading the EU stance is that the "UK Economy must not be seen to prosper after Brexit" Sad

Is there ANY chance it may not happen?
