When the public finances are reduced due to lower returns from taxes?

Govt spending is £800 billion. We borrow a bit of that and we have to pay interest - about 3% of what we spend. Given that we have a lower credit rating and that the pound is weaker, that's going to go up.

Still, we don't have to give the EU £8 billion net. Or do we? Because we still don't know what's going to happen about that.

But I fear there will be an economic effect and that will reduce Government income

Spending cuts, apart from education.

I don't get benefits. I have Private healthcare. I don't want to pay more tax.

Mainly I voted to remain. We're not all in this together (whereas I was happy to be poorer for the good of the country) in banking crisis.

It's not easy spending the EU saving of £8 billion when your total income goes down by say £10 billion. Because you are down £2 billion.

I would prefer tax cuts and old fashioned Keynesian public spending on infrastructure projects - maybe the long shelved tidal energy one.

That is how you grow an economy.

George Osborne is toast. So is his stupid belief in Austerity. We are about to get a new PM and a new Chancellor. I can't wait.

Given the choice spending cuts, my first choice would be benefit cuts.

Already pay nearly 50% tax so wouldn't be happy to pay more, already feel like we get robbed.

Heating allowances, TV licenses and bus passes for all pensioners over a certain age? I know my parents do not need that

I would tax those earning over six figures and pensioners with a private pension income over £50,000 pa. I would chase companies such as Google for tax.

I don't think the new cabinet will raise any taxes if they can help it. They will want to stimulate business and growth. They are Tories after all. They will also be able to play around with VAT.

Not sure about spending. But I am hoping we are going to get a mainly state educated Tory team next - people who know something about life: Theresa May, Sajid Javid, Stephen Crabb, Andrea Leadsom. Some of them are very rich but none of these four people were privately educated. They will want to be re-elected so they will want to woo Labour voters and they will know how to.

Labour needs to watch out.

I think we'll get both but I presume the benefits bill will go down due to all the unemployed people in Lincolnshire and other rural areas rushing into all the vacant salad bagging and fruit picking jobs left vacant by the immigrants.

No I don't.

But I live in hope. Moods can change. People can see sense. It's only Cameron and Osborne who are inflexible thinkers and wedded to neverending austerity measures (just like the EU is). I'm hoping that the EU will change too. I am an optimist. I have got my hopes pinned on people like Sajid Javid and Andrea Leadsom who can actually see change in a positive light.

I didn't vote leave, but that should make no difference to giving input here tbh. NO more cuts, actual DLA and Jobseekers (they all unifying I know are miniscule)

People need to stop moaning about 50% tax, get over your entitlement you only pay that on salary that is over the threshold, not on all your salary FGS.

Higher earners and corporations need to pay more tax if we want a humane system where there is a safety net as well as keep the NHS going as well as all our infrastructure. You have profited by the UK building roads, providing power, infrastructure, communications time to put back in.

In addition UK loses £120 billion pounds every year to tax evasion and avoidance. Don't get me wrong I don't expect to recover all of that but even 50% would be a start.

Choice of PM will count for a lot. I think May has more empathy in general. Johnson is likely to think 'if DLA seekers need more money they can free up some bonds, or sell a property'. If you think Cameron had his head in the most elite of clouds, you haven't seen anything yet... And he has the wonderful get out of free card of 'Sorry, EU exit has to be paid for, must tighten belts, etc'.
