Boris has finally come out & said:

"EU citizens living in this country will have their rights fully protected, and the same goes for British citizens living in the EU."

“British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down. As the German equivalent of the CBI – the BDI – has very sensibly reminded us, there will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market.”

"The only change – and it will not come in any great rush – is that the UK will extricate itself from the EU’s extraordinary and opaque system of legislation: the vast and growing corpus of law enacted by a European Court of Justice from which there can be no appeal."

He then said: “Yes, the Government will be able to take back democratic control of immigration policy, with a balanced and humane points-based system to suit the needs of business and industry."

I'm so confused, I voted Remain & I'm a big supporter of Freedom of Movement, is Boris saying we can still do everything we always could, but Europeans coming here will be subjected to more immigration controls? If he's not, as I doubt the EU will ever let us get away with that, then what is he saying?

I'm not trying to be a goady fucker, I'm genuinely baffled. I've seen some horrid posts throughout this weekend from both sides, so can we leave that out and just provide answers.

and now Germany have said that there will be NO informal talks until Article 50 is triggered... thus sinking the Leave plan to extend the impossibly-short 2-year time frame by starting informal negotiations early.

I'm sorry but I really need to say it:

THIS WAS ALL PREDICTED AAARGGHHH

how many times have Leave posters smugly written on these boards "we control the timetable" when told that the clock would be running against Britain. And how many times have they been told that the EU would not generously gift the UK extra negotiating time, because why would they.

We need to start a Bingo of all the "project Fear" predictions that are actually turning out to be "project Accurate".

Wow Shock I think the only person more worried than me right now is Boris Johnson, he might honestly become as hated as Tony Blair, maybe even more. We're such a democratic country, so it'll be interesting to see how we get ourselves out of this without ignoring the vote, do you think Boris can just pretend it never happened, that when he's asked why he hasn't invoked article 50 that he'll manage to lie about needing more time & keep that lie up until he's out of power, then the Tories/whichever party can say the referendum was Boris' issue & we've missed the opportunity etc?

I'm actually beginning to believe that Article 50 is not going to be invoked.
That was never the plan.
They thought they would lose. Instead of Friday being a wonderful day for them politically it's been a disaster.

Give it a week or so & there will be enough uproar to call a 2nd referendum.

EU will have calmed (or so they hope) & might be more agreeable to negotiations & reform.

Or else we will go back Cap in Hand (wonderful Proclaimer song - ex plains why Scotland is different).

But I don't actually think any of the politicians have the balls to trigger Article 50 or the desire.

In the mean time we are spiralling into a completely uneccessary deep recession.

Selfishly I bloody wished there was free movement between the UK and Aus! Sad

BumbleNova · 27/06/2016 14:37

luckymummy I fear we may get a lot more tories. Labour are in absolute disarray and the referendum really showed the deep gulf between the politicians and the people. its frightening, we need a real opposition. I'm looking for a lib dem surge personally.

Cjamm · 27/06/2016 14:55

Yeah, I personally think the Lib Dems can make a strong revival now, they have a great stance & a good leader, Labour I fear is about to wiped out of decades to come

My username sums up the leave campaign. Boris, where's my trampoline ? Your bus said I would get one.

Luckymummy22 · 27/06/2016 16:54

I fear that too! Which is why I'm not sure a general election is a good idea.

I can't vote for Labour with that man in charge. Lib Dems I said I'd never vote for but I have changed my mind. So possibly them or Greens will get my vote
I will go for whatever candI date can beat the Tories (excluding UKIP of course)
