Will David Lammy or Theresa May provide a figurehead for a coalition of MPs to 'stop the madness'? Might a GE provide an opportunity for MPs to stand on a platform of remaining in the EU and allowing a second referendum in two years or so?

There's no good option here. For Parliament to vote to invoke article 50, 500 of 650 MPs would have to vote for something they personally campaigned against, and which they believe to be catastrophically bad for the country.

If they don't vote for it, they are failing to carry out the democratic will of the people. But even then, MPs represent their own constituency (including non-voters), not the voting public across the whole UK, so MPs like Lammy have a strong case that the people in his own constituency have given him a mandate to vote against - not just the 60% or more who voted remain, but the needs of people under 18, and non-UK nationals who didn't get a vote who live in his constituency (a large proportion).

So in all it's hard to see how this could move forward. I wonder if such a vote would ever happen. And if Article 50 will be invoked at all.

It's not the democratic will of the people.

It's the democratic non-binding advice from the electorate. Just because one side got 4% more than the other does not make that advice sound or worth taking.

The real catastrophe is if MP's, against their beliefs and better interests, rubber stamp it.

Ignoring the result would not be democratic at all, it would be a disgrace. Just because the remain side got 4% less than the other does not make their advice sound or worth taking.

If a second referendum were held, there would be a vast majority for Remain because the Leave lies have been unmasked.

In the unlikely event of remain winning a second referendum, then even more of their own lies would be unmasked.
