Polling station drama llamas.

I can't be the only one enjoying a spot of polling station drama can I?

Two heavily tattooed men very angry that they have had a postal vote come through but no voting slip and they want to vote. Poor helper frantically trying to get hold of head office.

A polish couple also very irate at being told they are not eligible to vote and storming off.

Anyone else got any polling station drama to share?

(Just trying to distract myself from the anxious wait now!)

We were the only people there straight after school run. It was very weird - about 10 "official" people, a huge hall with different desks, and then just me and dd2!

CruCru · 23/06/2016 13:16

Well, there were a few people in front of me giving the people running the polling booth a hard time - I think they hadn't registered and were then surprised that they weren't on the list.

No one was aggressive though.

alltouchedout · 23/06/2016 13:16

There's never drama at mine. Although I'm going straight after picking ds3 up from the childminder after work tonight so we may create drama as he is going to be tired and desperate for a breastfeed and not impressed with my plans to take him somewhere he won't be allowed out of the pushchair to run around yelling.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/06/2016 13:19

I was the usual complicated voter (proxy for an overseas voter) so did the usual circuit of the tables with no record of my vote, then the bloke in charge phoning hq in hushed tones, and then be taken to the correct table and explained to The woman there.... No quick in and out for me - my second vote should be easier though
...

A nice, smily older lady said 'I hope you're voting Leave!' to me and DH as we crossed on the doorstep of our polling station. I just smiled and mumbled something non-commital. That's the nearest it'll get to drama here, 'tis very sedate!

I don't know if it was just me but I felt there was a lot of tension in the room, much more so than general elections.

The only tension in my local community hall/polling station was in the stripy sock that the official was knitting.... Smile

loada fuss from local (mostly younger) people on facebook about pen/pencil conspiracies.

No drama at the polling station though

CurlyBlueberry · 23/06/2016 13:19

We will be going after work and will take the kids, I hope there's not too big a queue.

EvaTheOptimist · 23/06/2016 13:20

Hesalover it was really busy at our polling station - an actual queue! I've never seen that before so I think the turnout could be high.

One person with a wrong address and a member of staff on the phone trying to sort it out

As a member of a local political party I have been at counts - there are lots of people like me, walking round, observing the counting very closely. Absolutely no way that it can be fixed or got wrong. No time or place for rubbing things out - you see the boxes unsealed and emptied.

I think the people who do the counting are heroes - they have an astonishing work ethic, work really hard. And through the night!

YourPerception · 23/06/2016 13:20

I had a chat with polling station staff and lots are asking for a pen, they are mostly people who haven't voted before.

Harold Wilson all over again Grin

Totally safe link, just News Thump.

We're going later but I'm secretly hoping my nuts (fascist, racist and Eastern-European hating) neighbour is there as he loves to express his Alf Garnett style opinions at the top of his voice to anyone who'll listen (usually just his 3 year old in the garden as he seems to read the Daily Mail, believe everything it says, and doesn't get out much) and that's probably the only excitement in this village for the next decade or so.

He's probably the only Leave vote round here, judging by the rest of the demographic.

Do the staff get paid? Or are they volunteers? I'm curious.

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 23/06/2016 13:27

No drama at mine. Only remain people outside. I'm in Scotland so I'm sure the majority will be remain anyway.

Dd1 got a sticker and dd2 slept through the whole thing.

SlimCheesy2 · 23/06/2016 13:29

I've been a scrutineer also and really, the pen/pencil conspiracy.... sheesh.

Only drama at ours was when the official who is also our next door neighbour asked us to confirm our name and address. Grin

We went at 8 am though and no-one was around, but we are pretty sedate around here.

SeveredPixieBits · 23/06/2016 13:31

I was the only person in my polling station, other than the officials. The only drama I caused was in my head when I posted my vote through the slot and then wondered if I should have folded it in half.

midsomermurderess · 23/06/2016 13:32

I live in a very pro-remain city. My polling station was quite quiet but it was only 8 am. It didn't feel at all tense or that anyone was feeling weary about it. Quite the opposite I'd say.

Littleballerina · 23/06/2016 13:34

I'm voting at a different place to where I've always voted due to moving. I'm quite excited. I promised my youngest to wait until he finishes school as they love to go.

jellyrolly · 23/06/2016 13:35

One of my children yelled out what I was voting in the hall and also one of my dogs went under the table and licked an official. Other than that drama, very middle England, hearty Hello!s as the village wandered down wot!

ohtheholidays · 23/06/2016 13:37

Loads of cars parked at our local polling station, not many in voting at the time but lots seemed to come in and vote just us.

HolditFinger · 23/06/2016 13:37

I was the only one there apart from the staff at around 10 today!

Millionsmom · 23/06/2016 13:37

I'm afraid I was the cause of drama at 2 polling stations today!

I registered to vote as an overseas voter. The local polling station didn't have me down. A quick call to the LA sorted out where I was registered. Jumped in the car, went to said polling station, yes I was on the list, but they weren't sure if I could vote.
The returning officer had a look and confirmed I could vote.
So I did.
No shouting, no arm waving, no huffing and puffing. So no real drama then!
Apart from me changing my mind just as I was about to vote Blush
