I went through my dithers here
I've opted to abstain

obviously I will just accept the result without comment!

Just curious to know if others have abstained?

I agree with Cauliflower and think that the referendum is a farce.

If there was some way of voting against having a referendum, I would have voted for that, but there wasn't so I voted.

Viviennemary · 23/06/2016 18:11

If somebody really isn't sure then I think it is sensible to abstain. Because how can they choose if they just can't decide. I spoke to two folk today abstaining though they don't usually in elections.

TooMuchMNTime · 23/06/2016 18:16

Okay that wasn't my last post
Something jarred in the dentist's chair and I felt selfish like it was all about my job...I'm not rich but I'm not poor. I'll figure something out.
So I voted.

I always vote but I understand the decision to abstain. It isn't that the OP hasn't thought about stuff, she has considered it and can't decide.

Personally, I think it would be a bit irresponsible to vote in that situation. Not sure what I'd do, but abstaining is a perfectly valid choice in my view. As long as you accept the outcome either way.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 23/06/2016 21:08

Did you vote out, OP? I hope so!

I was 100% out, but then I read too much and gave myself analysis paralysis. I was at the polling station, staring at my paper and still undecided.

So I voted Remain. I regret it now.

TooMuchMNTime · 23/06/2016 21:54

oh yes, I voted out
there was no way I could vote in.

What - you do recognise the weirdness of saying you hope I voted out but you voted in?

'So I voted Remain. I regret it now.'

Don't worry, WhatGoingOnEh, we've all done similar in the past. At the last minute, we sometimes do things we regret. I once voted LibDem in a general election and had to pray that the Tories would win for the entire rest of the day.

AlpacaLypse · 23/06/2016 22:02

Well done! You voted with your conscience not your wallet.

For everyone - vote with your heart. And if you are really undecided, scribble something on your voting paper to say so - yy it's a spoiled vote, but at least someone in authority will look at it and make a note of it.

I've really enjoyed the debates about politics on here, and on (some bits of) Facebook. I think it's wonderful that politics has not been something that happens only in Westminster or Brussels or Strasbourg. I hope that whatever tomorrow morning brings we'll be able to keep doing this.

' I think it's wonderful that politics has not been something that happens only in Westminster or Brussels or Strasbourg'

Absolutely, this is all about us, the people. Brilliant.

Alpaca "I think it's wonderful that politics has not been something that happens only in Westminster or Brussels or Strasbourg. I hope that whatever tomorrow morning brings we'll be able to keep doing this."

Yes, and because it's a referendum I am happy to respect the result. Well, i respect the results of a GE but it is an odd system.

The problem, I think, has been the bloody awful conduct of every side of the political spectrum throughout. There would be far fewer people who have no opinion either way if the material made a available to the masses had not been shameless propaganda. The truth is, we will never know if we made the 'right' choice because we will only ever see the results of our choice. There are strong arguments on each side. However, I would much rather we have a result cast by voters who have a genuine opinion than those who pitch up and play eeny meeny purely because of the suffragettes. Women-and men-did not die to give women the right to vote, they died to give women the choice to vote or not. Equality.
