The latest brainwave from the EU is that they want to replace UK judge & UK police with EU police & EU judges. The EU also wants an EU intelligence agency which will control & overrule the MI5, MI6 & also to stop the UK prosecuting terrorists and criminals could not be tried in UK courts!

Sign up for a trial sub and read the article. There's much more to it than the headline Confused

So anyway, despite the clear stated intentions of numerous EU luminaries you are going to rely on the inertia of member states and eurosceptics to save you from a federal EU?

I suppose I should be flattered but I feel you are being a bit naive.

STIDW · 02/05/2016 22:04

Any step towards common defence would have to be decided unanimously by all EU states because of the veto. Having said that with the prospect of Trump becoming President & NATO Commander in Chief an EU any it starting to look somewhat attractive. Wink

Here's some 'scare-mongering'. It's the website for the EU's Political Startegy Centre

Political Strategy Centre

European Political Strategy Centre - Towards a Security Union.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

Funny how those newspapers on the Mumsnet 'approved' list never want to report things that may make people question what the EU are up to. Funny that.

OTheHugeManatee · 02/05/2016 22:23

Hovercraft - both sides are scaremongering. I agree it's tedious and would rather see positive cases on both sides but what can you do Hmm

But I stand by 'naive'. This is the same EU who, when numerous nations rejected the EU Constitution in referenda, repackaged it as the Lisbon Treaty and rammed it through.

Who think nothing of deposing elected heads of state & replacing them with EU approved technocrats.

The EU has form, time and again, for ignoring opposition to its plans and just finding ways round it. The people who believe in the federal EU live in a bubble and don't give a toss about opposition within EU nations, which they dismiss as dangerous 'populism' and routinely ignore.

You are indeed extremely naive if you read stated plans, from EU sources, for a federal EU and cheerfully conclude 'oh it won't happen because people don't want that'.

SpringingIntoAction · 02/05/2016 22:40

That was to Springing, obviously...

Even our PM thinks Britain will be OK outside the EU - that's good enough for me.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/britain-would-do-okay-outside-the-european-union-david-cameron-says-a6727031.html

“Some people seem to say that really Britain couldn’t survive, couldn’t do okay outside the European Union. I don’t think that is true,” he said.

“Look at the record of inward investment. Look at the leaders beating the path to our door to come and see what’s happening with this great country’s economy. The argument isn’t whether Britain could survive outside the EU. Of course it could.”

There you are from the Prime Minister himself - Brexit is nothing to worry about.

STIDW · 02/05/2016 23:03

Who think nothing of deposing elected heads of state & replacing them with EU approved technocrats.

But they weren’t deposed, they were in untenable positions & resigned. Elected MPs then agreed to appoint the technocrats.

pratiaalba · 02/05/2016 23:04

I do wonder who on earth reads the Express?
I mean, who exactly are they trying to appeal to? Confused

STIDW · 02/05/2016 23:06

What stated plans exactly do you mean? Any chance of the EEC/EU becoming a federal state diminished when the UK & Denmark joined. What has evolved is an EU with different tiers of membership to reflect the economic & political realities of individual member states.

UK, Denmark, Sweden, perhaps a few other countries & Ireland because of it’s constitutional peculiarities are unlikely to give the required consent. More integration cannot be forced on the us against our wishes but we cannot prevent other countries who want more integration from having it.

STIDW · 02/05/2016 23:19

I do wonder who on earth reads the Express?

As someone who observes rather than having particular allegiances I confess to sometimes reading the Express, Telegraph & Times. On a more regular basis I read the Daily Mail, Guardian, Independent & the Glasgow Herald. Just because I read them doesn't mean I agree with them.

SpringingIntoAction · 02/05/2016 23:41

At least the OP is reading a paper and querying matters.

I met someone yesterday who asked me what the EU was.

Isn't this the plot from the last Bond film, Spectre Confused

No, we cannot rely on anything we must leave.

I am not sure that general public who want to vote remain, actually know whats at stake here. I think they think, the status quo will remain the same.

Trevor, is it Groundhog Day or something?

trevorct7 · 02/06/2016 21:46

Yep, if that is what you want it to be Smile at least I am not telling lies like others on both sides.
