For those who don't eat Nestle products ... what tin of sweets do you get at Christmas?

I find that Roses are a bit pants, Celebrations and Heroes aren't really what I'm after either (they're just mini choc bars rather than little sweets). So is there anything else? Anything fair trade would be best. TIA.

. Welcome ponders. would you like some seeds or oats?

Honestly, if we were to get a tin of sweets dh would eat them all in a day and a half. that would be so bad for his not so good figure.

Booja Booja choc truffles. £5 for 6. You're only allowed ONE!

mamadiva, I try to buy Fairtrade where it doesn't hurt the budget too much, but boycotting Nestle is a different matter altogther and saves me money.

Nestle market infant formula unethically, particularly in third world countries leading to many babies and mothers suffering and dying.
I can't eat Nestle now, the thought turns my stomach.

mamadiva · 18/11/2009 14:26

Okay just checked up on the Nestle boycott on Wikipedia. Thanks.

Good question, am watching with interest.

Are Cadbury's really fair trade or is it just greenwashing?

GoldenSnitch · 18/11/2009 19:30

Roses even come in a box rather than a tin now too so you can be green and full of choccies

Indith · 18/11/2009 19:33

I make florentines with sexy candied peel (not that horrid dry pre chopped stuff you get in the supermarket) and chocolate truffles and hope for a couple of boxes of trashy chocolate from Rainbow parents (while feeling a twinge if Nestle but it would probably be more unethical to throw them out given the amount of food waste that is generated in this country).

It's only Dairy Milk so far from Cadbury's AFAIA.
Green and Blacks do some v nice individual bite size wrapped choc bars, not FT but organic and therefore fairly ethical.
Or go to the Co-op, all their own brand choc is FT but I don't know if they do tins.

MissGreatBritain · 19/11/2009 14:54

All Co-op own brand choc is fair trade. Also it's quite easy to get hold of fair trade cocoa for baking etc. We tend to buy fair trade choc, but sometimes the DCs get given other stuff, which is okay, because we just try to do our best buy not buying it ourselves.

BTW I love lentils - have a great low-fat lentil curry recipe which is yummy. Also good to put in stews to bulk them out a bit.
