Old carpet - what can I do with it?

Have had to have carpet replaced on new set of stairs to replace old ones...but the fitter won't take the old stuff away (prob good as it would just go to Landfill)
Am I right in thinking keen gardeners might want it for frost protection?

Or compost heaps if it is not foam backed

or local allotment holders might want it to cover weedy ground. you could put it on freecycle. (where do you live? we'll take it if you're near cambridge!)

Agree re Freecycle, old carpets being offered/asked for on there all the time.

SkaterGrrrrl · 24/11/2009 19:18

Keep the weeds down!

good points raised, I take it you and your neighbours dont have a compost heap then lol... offer it around if they do, the last carpet i had i gave to someone as a pond liner (i was surprised) but yes do offer it to your local allotments if possable, quite often someone who wants it on the allotments will even come fetch it off you, the allotments often have notice boards you can write messages on for their members.

Pond lining, shed floor, just Freegle it.
