hi - am desperately trying to be more green and organic, can anyone suggest an alternative to plastic sandwich bags for the kids lunchbox please?

tupperwarish box - i have lock&lock ones but could reuse e.g. icecream or takeaway ones.

You could use greaseproof paper but I'm not sure that you can buy a recycled version. Otherwise you could buy a small box which the sandwiches would fit in snugly and would be no need for extra wrapping.

I will admit here to reusing tinfoil for DD's butties.

xpost re box

Ceolas · 06/09/2009 20:23

wrap n mat. Have seen folks on here raving about them. You have just reminded me to order

iheartdusty · 06/09/2009 20:31

re-use cereal packet liners and bread wrapping.

KnickKnack · 06/09/2009 20:34

you can get Paper Lunch Bags from most health shops (don't know if they are available elsewhere)

bonnyb1 · 06/09/2009 20:35

I'm loving the wrap and mat, think I'll give it a try, thanks Ceolas.

I use the sandwich bags then when they come home I re-use them as dog-poo bags.

InTheseBeautifulPurpleShoes · 06/09/2009 21:31

Those wrap and mats are brilliant! Thanks for the recommendation

Overmydeadbody · 06/09/2009 21:33

wrap-n-mats, they are fairly cheap (order them from onya or ebay) and perfect.

I have been using them in DS's lunchboxes now for two years.

fortyplus · 06/09/2009 21:35

Mine just have a little plastic box inside the lunch box

IlanaK · 06/09/2009 21:35

We use the wrap n mats. They are great!

Tommy · 06/09/2009 21:39

we use these - hardly use wrap or foil these days

paisleyleaf · 06/09/2009 21:44

Google 'snack taxi' for ideas. They're in America, but there are similar products here, and lots of patterns online to make them yourself.

I also have a couple of tiffin tins that DH and I use a lot...but DD is just that bit too young to open/shut them herself yet.

ThingOne · 06/09/2009 22:09

I just use a little plastic box. DC's school sends all the lunch rubbish back home! This is the perfect size for a sandwich.

tassisssss · 06/09/2009 22:14

we have small plastic box for sandwices and weaning pot for grapes/strawberries etc

if you're looking for paper bags you can get them super cheap on ebay

paisleyleaf · 06/09/2009 23:17

I think the idea is to cut down on plastics.

fortyplus · 07/09/2009 12:59

Obviously it would be great to cut down on plastics, but so many takeaway restaurants use those little plastic portion-size ones that I'm sure one of your less ethical friends will have a stash of them in their kitchen cupboard!

tassisssss · 07/09/2009 13:36

hmmm, is it better to use the same 2 wee plastic tubs (that I didn't buy specially but had left over from weaning) or to buy nice paper bags?

(i've been using the same plastic tubs for over a year...)

LuluMaman · 07/09/2009 13:40

aldi had greaseproof paper sandwich bags in stock today.and they are recycled and recyclable

nlpmum · 22/09/2009 00:04

What about bags that bread comes in? (if you buy sliced bread that is).

nevergoogledragonbutter · 22/09/2009 00:19

make your own sandwich wrap

paisleyleaf · 22/09/2009 00:25

Yes, that's the patterns I've seen. They look easy enough.
