DH and I were wondering about this after seeing a TV programme tonight on all the petrochemicals in beauty products - they showed a woman who made her own but didn't give enough details about how to do it...

My brother swears by olive oil and rubs that into his hands and face daily, but personally I'm a bit about this, and it does give him a distinct odour

I used to make my own soap but it is a bit of a faf.

You can make your own bath salts with course sea salt, essential oils and dried flowers.

Have a look at the OCM thread...

Whoa I was coming onto here to post about making my own cream. I have been doing lots of research and have ordered a book on amazon, which has great reviews. I eagerly await and can't wait to start.

Yesterday I tried coffee grinds mixed with olive oil for a body scrub. It was a bit messy but I had lovely skin after especially on my feet. I think however I will only do it on my feet in future. I aksed dp to smell me after and he couldn't detect anything.

Also I keep cabbage in the fridge. If I have puffy eyes in the morning I place the leaves over my eyes. Its alot less messy than anything else and you don;t have to lie down. My eyes look alot less puffy and it feels really nice.

Clover, isn't it always the way, this didn't come up on my search. That looks like a really good site, but I need to take an indepth look.

I only knew about it through another MN thread a few years ago!

I use lemon-infused olive oil I was given as a present, once it got too old to cook with (less of an odd smell than plain olive oil). Places like Bodyshop sell plain almond oil for massage and essential oils ot make it smell nice. I also just saw coconut oil on sale in the corner shop. Oil is lovely for hands and legs, probably a bit greasy for face though!

olive oil is great for you face, only use a small amount massage in thoroughly and you wont be left with greasy skin, unlike conventional moisturisers

I don't know about moisturiser, but if you need a toner, I tend to mix 3 parts Witch Hazel to 2 parts Rose Water, and just wipe over face after cleansing. It works for me!
