Anyone want to sell a chariot cycle trailer?

Ok - so I am desperate to get out on the bike again, and now that my little one is getting a bit older I am investigating cycle trailers and it seems that chariot are some of the only ones that are suitable from about 6 months (if you get an inserty thing) but realistically we just can't afford it.

So does anyone have an old one sitting round that they no longer use? Or any other bright ideas for getting out on the bike (mostly going to be touring on quiet roads in the north of scotland) with my baby now that it is nearly summer and I have all day to play with him during the week?

You can use the Chariot insert in other trailers if you cut a little hole in the fabric so you can hang the sling bit on the frame. I'm sure it's not recommended by the manufacturers but it worked perfectly for us.

Cool! It's good to know that these things can be bodged.

Is that the baby hammocky insert or the padded head holding one?

I had the baby hammock insert from DS being about four months, I think. He loved it! The padded head thingy was a complete waste of time, as far as I'm concerned. He sat on a pillow (helmeted fully, of course) and his sister used to prop him up.....

From what I understand, Chariot recommend only using the hammock thingy when you walk with the trailer, not on the roads. Aren't you better off fixing a car seat into the trailer somehow? Thats what a friend of mine did.

I didn't use my Chariot on the roads until they could sit properly and hold their heads confidently with a helmet on.

When DS was on his own we used the padded head hugger thingy and it was great, but once there were two of them in there it took up too much space.

I would add that I love my Chariot and I don't think any other trailer compares. It is so easy to tow and it looks so comfy. When we bought ours we looked for second hand ones and there weren't any out there. We bought it from the USA in the end and got it sent over through DHs work. Its definitely worth paying the extra money for one.

Most cyclists strap infant carseats down very tight, facing backwards in their trailers, of whatever make. That's what we did (with our Chariot).
Ahem, we did, and I know someone else who put a little baby in just sitting up squished in with a sibling, from ~6 months but only for quite short gentle journeys.
In retrospect, I think we might have been happier or at least equally happy with a Burleigh or a Wike or a Dolphin (Danish make), but our Chariot is ok. We have Cougar II, very limited luggage space and not well suited to wet weather.

Friend cycled quite well with her baby son strapped in an ergonomic carrier on her back; it worked well for them.
