Nobody wants our 17" monitors

DH has 4x17" monitors going spare from his work. They work fine, but I can't find anyone to give them to. Have tried 2 local Freecycle groups; have tried another Freecycle group in nearest city, just a bit further away, but they won't let us post without a postcode within their area -- even though in theory we might be able to deliver.

We have asked local charity shop that takes electrical goods, and local charities and schools, no luck.

Any more ideas? Else they end up as industrial waste .

Have you tried one of those charities that takes old computer equipment?

SoupDragon · 11/03/2009 18:46

Anything here for your area?

bubblerock · 11/03/2009 18:48

We arranged for the council to take ours away but it was taken from outside our house before they arrived - maybe wait for a nice day and leave them outside with a "help yourself" sign, you never know.

KnickKnack · 11/03/2009 19:01

where (roughly) do you live? someone from mumsnet might like one of them?

mloo · 12/03/2009 09:20

HI, thanks for replies.
We are in North Norfolk.
Cambridge is the nearest place on SoupD's link, and that's 1.5-2 hours drive away.
There is little passing traffic out front, so I don't think leaving them out with a 'Free' sign would be much use (although it may come to that).
Ho, hum.

How long is it since you advertised on Freecycle? Just wondering as I have previously posted something there, with no response whatsoever. Posted same item again a couple of months later and someone emailed me the following day, and took it. So possibly worth another try. Are they flat screens? May be worth stating this, as people may otherwise think they are the big bulky ones (maybe they are!)

Have you considered advertising in local free newspaper? Or Eastern Daily Press? School newsletter? Leaving outside your house is certainly worth a try. Have you phoned council to see if they have any suggestions?

I have had a similar problem in the past. Tried to sell PC (inc huge bulky monitor), couldn't, investigated charities who would take them, discovered that nearest was far drive away which is v off-putting when you are trying to give something away. I was fortunate in that I finally gave it away to a friend. She was really grateful, but I felt v guilty as it was so slow and bulky.

Good luck!

There are special charity shops that do take electrical equipment, perhaps call round a bit more?

missblythe · 12/03/2009 10:24

Could you try the housing office at the council? When they re-house people they need everything from bed-linen to kitchen stuff, so am sure they'd like your TV.

The Homelessness Services no for Kings's Lynn is 01553 616675

Not sure how near to you that is, but they should at least be able to point you in the right direction.

There's this place too:

Thanks for all the ideas, I will give them a go.
