Freecycle. Lots of Ebayers on there now??

I have posted my Britax Practicale Sport 3 in 1 Pram on our local site. I did it 3 days ago, and no takers!! OK, it's a bit old and well used, but it has everything, including the carry-cot, and I love it (sob!!)
My DH reckons I have put off a lot of people, as I specifically said I wanted it to go to someone who needed it, not a trader, and would be putting an Item Alert up on Ebay, which would deter people from trying to sell it. I always thought that only a few Freecyclers would be selling things on, but I'm beginning to wonder. (or maybe everyone thinks my beloved pram is a pile of old junk!!)

My feeling is that a lot of baby stuff on Freecycle is taken and then sold on. Other things seem to be taken by people who genuinely need or want them, but IMO baby stuff is taken by traders.

Although obviously the warm glow of helping someone out is nice - does it really matter if people sell freecycle stuff on Ebay? I use it to get rid of stuff I no longer need and can't be bothered to sell myself...

Sullwah · 26/02/2009 20:33

So what?

You are making it available to anyone - and if there are no non-traders who want it - then IMO I would be happy for someone to make a bob or two. At least it would stay out of landfil.

Why do you begrudge someone spending the time and effort to sell it on if you don't want to do it yourself?

missingtheaction · 26/02/2009 20:35

i really don't care if someone wants to try to sell my junk on - if I thought it was worth selling I'd do that.

You've tried to give it to someone who needs it but sadly nobody does. Either put it on ebay yourself, or give it to someone who can be botherd to do it.

Round here we do have an ebay seller - keeps about 1/3 of what they get from ebay for selling your stuff for you

DRAGON30 · 26/02/2009 20:40

It not a question of 'can't be bothered', RSCG. It matters to me, as I don't think that someone should pretend to need something and then just sell it on. (This has happened to us before). I suppose I don't like being lied to...funny that..

But it sounds like no "needy" person wants your pram.

And now you are stuck with it!

I think you are being a bit silly really. Either sell it yourself or let someone else do it. You never know - it may be a "needy" person selling it on and using the cash to feed their children and then you can that warm glow that comes with giving.

DRAGON30 · 26/02/2009 22:05

I think the replies on here have confirmed what I thought. There's plenty of people who are prepared to take and sell anything that's not nailed down, even if they have to lie to get it, and apparently thats OK by some of you. Still, each to their own.
I'll be taking it to the Hospice shop tomorrow.
And by the way, I particularly appreciated the sarcastic "warm glow" comments. Nice touch

To be honest, I couldn't give two hoots what other Freecyclers do with my junk. I only often put stuff that I wouldn't sell myself on there anyway but may be good enough for someone else. Sometimes I once offered some old girl's clothes which would normally receive a lot of interest but I had stated that the condition was mixed and that I wouldn't sell them. I only got one reply.

Give it to a local second hand baby shop, if there is one?
