Interesting chat in shop about Ecover

I went into a local shop to get a refill of washing up liquid, and the assistant asked if I would mind them changing to Bio D products in the near future. Their reason was because Ecover were increasing their prices substantially due to being produced abroad now, and with the weak pound against the euro, plus increased carbon footprint. The shop didn't want to pass these price rises on to their customers, so chose to stock Bio D which is made in the U.K.

Best of all, they will be able to do refills of the Bio D products, as they did with the Ecover. I prefer the Bio D laundry liquid, the only thing that put me off was nowhere to get refills locally.

I think bio-d washing up liquid's better than ecover anyway, at least in my hard water area.

does bio-d laundry liquid have a smell?
we bulk buy ecover liquid -good for our new machine which washes cold- but it is scented. Not vile, just prefer no scent.

I've never noticed it having a scent although I've never sniffed hard. It seems good to me.

Interesting. I know my dad won't get Ecover because apparently the same company runs private prisons in the US.

DH's shop stopped doing Ecover for various reasons, mainly them losing their vegan status TBH. Sonnett was OK but ATM I am on tiny amounts of mainstream potions

They have put their prices up hugely - the non bio washing powder has gone up by over £1 a box! Our local Eco shop also stock Bio D and have told me that its better - my only worry is whether or not its still ok for people with eczema - DD1 suffers quite badly and she's been better since I started using Ecover - does anybody know if its skin friendly too?

I really like Bio-D but have previously had the same problem with being unable to buy it in local healthfood shop. I'd love it to be more widely available.

Ds1 used to have very sensitive skin and he's fine with Bio-D but I'm not sure if that's because he's getting better as he gets older. Have you tried using ecoballs pocketmonster? I've just started and the only thing I still need washing powder for is ds3's nappies. I would have thought they would be better than any washing powder as they leave minimal residue on the clothes.

Mummypig - sorry for the delayed reply! Do ecoballs get things really properly clean?
