Reusable batteries?

Hello. I am in the prcess of switching to rechargeables and would ideally liked to have completly ditched throw away ones completly by the time I have used up what I have in the house. We go through a lot in this house.

My main questions are:

  • If I were to charge all my batteries, can I then store them to use at a later date, or would they loose their charge?
  • Is it ok to use/charge different brand of batteries at the same time?
  • DDs birthday today and she has just been given one of those dolls that go in the bath and they swim. It takes AAAs. Do you think it is safe to use the rechargeables or should I use disposables as it goes in water?
  • How many charges can I expect the batteries to last?
  • Is it worth getting a charger for big batteries (as in, bigger than AA) if we use some but don't go through many? As in have a couple of big toys that take them but not needing changing too often? We have another baby due in April, so will have a few more bits probably for her.

not too many answers here, but I do know that certain things shouldn't have rechargeables. Remote controls come to mind.

We have them for a lot of toys and works well.

Can't see a difference for the doll in water, myself, surely it's safe for either.

Hope a knowledgeable person comes along soon!

I didn't know you shouldn't use them in remotes! Do you know why? Not that it really matters as they seem to last forever in remotes anyway!

You can charge them and then stick them in the freezer (but need to let them get back up to room temp before you can use them).

Is OK to use different brands together, so long as are same time (ie all must be NiMH or NiCa or whatever - NiMH are supposed to be best I think)

If something works with non-rechargeables in water it should be fine with rechargeables, unless the instructions says otherwise

I'm still charging batteries that I've had for at least five years, so hundreds of times maybe?

Worth getting a charger that does all types (up to Ds) IME

I use rechargeables in all our remotes!
