Any idea where I can get cheap, quality recycled wrapping paper?

I just use brown parcel paper; sorry if that's no use.

hotCheeseBurns · 08/12/2008 20:31

Can you get recycled brown parcel paper?

I'm not sure you'd want 20 rolls though!

I wonder if the single rolls they sell instore are recycled too?

sophy · 09/12/2008 18:03

Woodland Trust has nice 100% recycled wrapping paper. Not v cheap though.

Oxfam has 75% recycled paper, cheaper, and more suitable for children.

aren't you saving them out of the guardian

BlueChampagne · 15/12/2008 13:29

Be prepared - save the best bits from presents this year to wrap next year's.

PortAndStilton · 15/12/2008 13:40

I'm using recycled lining paper recycled and cheap and tying with ribbon (which can be reused) to jazz it up a bit.

hotCheeseBurns · 15/12/2008 13:47

What's lining paper?

The only recycled wrapping paper I could find in brighton yesterday was brown parcel paper so I got some of that.

Now I'm wondering how to stop it looking dull and cheap...

Stuff for lining walls with before papering/painting. I picked up a couple of rolls from B&Q, and am tying parcels with red gingham ribbon.

sophy · 15/12/2008 14:44

hotcheese if you tie brown paper parcels with raffia it looks quite good, and v. cheap and ethical.

Or get the dc to decorate with potato print xmas trees etc.

sophy · 15/12/2008 14:49

I have got over wanting my presents to look good. I use a mixture of bits of tissue paper (that stuff comes wrapped in), old brown paper, paper bags etc.

Have also used those free posters you used to get from the Guardian.

No one has ever complained about my unstylishly presented presents. It's what's inside that counts.

ShauntheSheep · 15/12/2008 14:52

Have been wrapping dss's and dd's presents for Yule and had no tape so am tying everything up. Dp did remark that this way we could save all the wrapping paper for next year . Am not sure if thats eco or tightwad tho.

BlueChampagne · 17/12/2008 13:08

Bit of both, Shaun. But now you can dress up latter as former!

Lulubee · 18/12/2008 23:10

WHSmith do recycled brown paper. Have bought some pretty ribbon to jolly it up a bit but am worried all my presents will look very dull. Too late to potato-print them...do you think it will matter?

blithedance · 18/12/2008 23:14

The best way is to save from one year to the next isn't it?(My PIL's have been doing this for years, using the same paper according to DH).

This gets you over the issue of how to recycle the paper you receive on presents this year, and provides a supply of recycled paper for next year.

Oxfam always have nice recycled paper, worth going into a shop for.

feedthegoat · 18/12/2008 23:16

I got some really nice 100% recycled christmas paper from boots (on 3 for 2 aswell)

Fennel · 19/12/2008 09:54

We use newspaper for in-famiy presents (the Guardian, of course ) and brown paper and re-used paper where we can too, and we just use new wrapping paper for other people who might find newspaper weird.

I like the plainer parcels, especially the brown paper packages. Also the dds like to decorate them themselves.

sophy · 20/12/2008 19:16

Well my green and ethical approach to wrapping paper has totally backfired on me.

DH was so appalled by the motley selection of old tissue paper etc I gave him to wrap presents with that he marched into WH Smith and bought lots of completely non-recyclable glittery stuff.

Next time I will compromise and choose something eco-friendly but presentable myself.

DH claims the dc will suffer if their presents look weird. I maintain that they only care about what's inside not the wrapping.

sender1004 · 20/12/2008 19:22

brown paper parcels tied with nice ribbon look lovely imo
if you have a christmassy stamp plus gold or silver ink the dc can decorate them

janeite · 20/12/2008 19:40

Well I think my brown paper parcels look lovely. Dp however, rather like Sophy's dh has insited that he will not wrap my presents in brown paper and has been off to Waitrose. At least he bought recycable paper but it just seems such an extravagence, both financially and environmentally. You get so much more brown paper for your money!

FeminineWear · 28/12/2008 00:57

I think I will buy a load of cheap Christmas tea towels in the sales and use them to wrap presents in next year.
My victims can either say "yay, another tea towel" or take the hint and wrap their presents in them next year!
Failing that, the radio times!

Podrick · 04/01/2009 09:47

I am using some left over wallpaper I bought from a car boot sale for 50p. It is a heavyweight and a black and silver design, very sophisticated and looks much better than ordinary wrapping paper
