on mine there is a sort of loop handle thing at the top of the child seat and i've threaded a wire through that with the light on. Errrr, don't ask me to explain better

thanks speedy response!

we've clipped ours into an airvent but i'm just not happy too many speed bumps and no way of knowing whether it falls off or not....

I did consider getting some cheapy lights and err, well sticking it (like with double sided tape or whatever) to the back of the child seat.
Had I known that i was going to have the child seat on the back of my bike for 8 years then i most certainly would have done!!
Wouldn't ya think that they'd put a huuuugge reflector on the back of the baby seats? Defo designed by a bloke.

Cable ties. That's what i mean I tied my light on with. Blardy huge cable tie, then the actual bike light on a wire which we twisted round [and round and round] until it was suitably tight. It doesn't budge. As I said earlier, it hasn't 'budged' for best part of 8 yrs.
thankfully dd is getting her own bike for Christmas

8 years

that's about 0.05p per trip!!

I'm sorprised the whole thing isn't fluorescent orange

should we patent it and market the "visible" version? Reflectors all over an orange seat, then?

tho who could miss me on a red bike with a large blue seat on the back, with child singing / shouting at its brothers / screeching for amusement, is a tad beyond me. Even in the dark

BlueChampagne · 27/10/2008 12:55

Yes, why aren't bike seats made more visible and with fixings for lights? I think they get off the hook by saying you shouldn't cycle in the dark. Yeah right.

I've got lights mounted on the frame the seat is attached to (I've got a Co-pilot taxi) and have just bought some of the little flashing LEDs to clip on the lower (unused) strap holes.

Does anyone know where you can get a fluorescent 'child on board' sticker for a bike?

Bluechampagne - I'd like one of those too! Or maybe a reflective jacket/bib with it on - I wonder if it would keep cars away at all.

I have DS on the front of my bike, so I've not had to worry with this, but I used to have 3 rear lights on my bike: one fixed low down, to the rear frame where it comes down to the rear axle; a second permanently mounted on the very back of my rear rack, and then another on my seat post. The first two should work with a child seat on the back, I should think. You can also get helmet-mounted LEDs for extra extra light.

Also got extra front lights on my front panniers to let people know that we're wider than anticipated, and part of our route is completely unlit.

Am not happy about cycling over the wet leaves the council has failed to clear up from the cycle path. We've already had one fall. Luckily DS only shaken and me slightly bruised.
