Endless phone troubles, now the last one has died so we need a new one.
Eco-me says you should have an ordinary plug-in one.
Practical me says no way, this is one place I'm not going green.
BUT I don't want to get something that costs much to run.
How do I go about finding out how much energy different cordless phones (or other non A-E rated appliances) use?

ok

i have a plug in energy monitor thingy in my chordless phone now

in the past 33 hours (I have just checked) the whole plu has used 0.6kwh (ie about 9p)

in this plug i have plugged in my TV (a quite bug one) and that had been on for a good 8 hours of the past 42, my chordless phone, my DVD player, which is off byt still has the red light on so not sure how off and my stereo.

the all of those appliance together seen to use about half a kwh per day ie not much.

toasting 4 slices of toast in my toaster (which takes approx 5 mins) uses about the same amount of energy as all of those appliances pit together in 1 day, and as i say i have been watching TV for a good 8 hours of that (and its off when not watching, not on standby)

(I have been playing monitoring my electricity useage with that monitor plug thing these past few weeks )

Quite a lot of dect phones are now eco-friendly. We recently bought a pair of Panasonic ones (the KX-TG8322) which can go into power-saving mode when not in use so that the screen is only bright when it rings which is great for us as one of them is in the bedroom and we didn't want it glowing!

Found one of the cheapest places to get it was Argos

v helpful - specially NannyL, because though I know some of them SAY they're eco-friendly, they don't give you any data on energy usage etc.

What did you decide about your old fridge NannyL, how much was it using? (we discussed electric power meters some time ago, I'm still v keen on ours, tho feeling the need for one like yours as well... extra gadgets hardly ecofriendly though...)

my really really old fridge freezer uses 2kwh per day

(my sisters brand new energy efficient bosch fridge freezer used 0.5 kwh per day)

will be getting a new one asap and freecycling my current one

wow NannyL that is quite a difference!

Back to the phones, I've just ordered a Siemens one, and we decided we could cope just fine with one handset (we thought we needed a phone in the bedroom, but - why?) so that's going to be part of our energy saving. And siemens claim to be super-eco, though giving NO data...
