Into which recycling bin should I put a dead rat?

Surely it should be the FOOD recycling bin, because ultimately it will rot down?

But it looks WRONG sitting there wrapped up in the food bin

Please advise

Uuurrgghh!!

DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 10:13

Double wrap in bin bags and into the normal bin I think.

No bones permitted in our food recycling, not sure if that applies to all councils.

nannyL · 12/08/2008 19:05

it put it in the dustbin too

Bewilderbeast · 12/08/2008 19:21

put it in the compost. dead cats are said to be good for roses, i'm sure that dead rats must be good for something

madcol · 12/08/2008 19:22

Drop it on the council's doorstep.

twoluvlykids · 12/08/2008 19:23

chuck it over your fence!

SlartyBartFast · 12/08/2008 19:32

Fanlight · 12/08/2008 19:32

Classic!

Sorry not much help MP

I like the title though

Fanlight · 12/08/2008 19:33

Can you dig a deep hole and bury it?

Ring council tomorrow otherwise. They will have a policy...

Goober · 12/08/2008 19:34

Chuck it into next doors garden.

Madlentileater · 12/08/2008 20:53

Bury it if you can be bothered.

ChasingSquirrels · 12/08/2008 21:14

food recycling - presuming that is compost??, as long as you haven't cooked it (cooked food attracts rats you know...)

sophy · 13/08/2008 18:58

When I had one in London council made a special journey to collect it because of the health risk.

So you probably shouldn't compost or recycle it.

serin · 19/08/2008 00:20

We think you should bury it.
Give it some sort of send off.

Helium · 28/08/2008 21:41

No meat bones fat or dairy in compost - urggh - no rats - they may be diesesed etc and would attract vermin. Double wrap and in the dustbin!

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2008 21:43

well, unless you are vegetarian, you should make rataouille in order to reduce wastefullness...

There are children starving in Afric, you know.

Blandmum · 28/08/2008 21:43

Not in the compost bin. In with the rubbish. There can be viruses in a rat, and if the composting isn't don't well enough to general suficient heat, they might survive (the viruses not the rat who is, after all, already dead!)

snorkle · 29/08/2008 08:44

Our brown bin for garden waste takes wrapped food waste including bones - it is hot composted apparently so should be OK. If it was me, I'd put it either in that or in the general waste according to which was being collected first as they alternate each week.

Rats can carry nasty viruses - this is the point at which I would put self-sufficiency ethics to one side and ring the Council for advice.
