Would you object to a 125m wind turbine less than a mile from your home?

our local ASDA warehouse are planning on putting one up. we were all for it. but we just found out that it's going to be one of the BIG ones. now we're not so sure.
do they make noise? will it effect our property value? does anyone have any experience living near one?

I'd hate it, but I am a bit sceptical about their value! Apparently if the sun shines through them into your house you can get a strobe effect - but that depends on where it is in relation to your house. I'd be a bit worried about the hum - but I guess the asda car park is pretty noisy anyway. Why not phone an estate agent to ask about impact on value?

honestly, all this talk about carbon footprints and bitching about whos doing this and whos not doing that but ask people to accept something new that might actually help and NO its all, oh but they hum, and they look horrid, which is bollox.

No, I absolutely would not, I would welcome it with open arms. I love the idea of wind-power, I would happily have a turbine in my back garden.
I firmly believe in them, but then I am from Holland where they are all along the coast and along coastal motorways interspersed with lamp posts.

Unless they were siting it directly next to my bedroom window I fail to see how it could cause a problem.

I think some of them can be quite beautiful (though possibly aesthetics are not a consideration bearing in mind its attached to a asda warehouse)

Ring up Asda and ask if you can sign up for any discounted electricity surplus scheme they might have?

Don't be grumpy about them: the oil's gonna run out soon and we're all going to find them much more attractive when it does!

No, I think they are rather beautiful, I have had a picnic very very close to one and couldn't hear it, and i'd rather live close to a windmill rather than cose to the extra emisions from any other fuel they might use.

I wouldn't complain, no, we may actually get some large turbines about a mile from us and in our view in the next 10 years or so, and we are looking to invest in the project.

No I wouldn't - far better than a sub station or generation plant! I actually think they look rather graceful

Would get no sense out of ds1 at all, he wouldn't eat or sleep (he is utterly transfixed by them).

Ds1 aside I rather like the way they move. And I would rather that than a mobile phone mast.

Wouldn't bother me. Apparentlythere are going to be some nearish us as we were given the option to object. In fact I had someone come round trying to get me to sign a petition against them. Took him a while to realise they we actually welcome the idea. Better that than nuclear.

I live almost next dor to one of the biggest asdas in this country and if thats what they chose to do it wouldnt botehr me in the slightest!

When developers look at building turbines, they have to locate them at least 400m away from homes due to the noise. At this distance they are quiet enough at night. Shadow flicker is also considered and there are some turbines that stop rotating at certain times of the day to stop flicker.

There's some in Cambridgeshire which had new houses built close to it and apparently there was no problem selling them.

we really don't have any objections to it. we just want to make sure it's not going to effect us. (ie, noise etc)
