Can you live without kitchen roll?

If I have kitchen roll I use it for a million things, so I'm trying to see whether I can go without it to be a bit greener, and use microfibre cloths, tea towels etc instead.

Does anyone else not use kitchen roll? What do you use instead? The only things which I can't work out what else to use are:

  • blotting oil from sausages after grilling
  • final removal of oil from grillpan

Hankies are fantastic! You just need to have lots of them, but when you have a really stonking cold they are so much nicer on the nose. Washing at 40 degrees with Ecover liquid seems to be fine for them.

I do use kitchen roll (economy recycled) a bit, usually for wiping up damp crumby surfaces or stuff off the floor, so it then goes in the compost bin. The grill pan is lined with foil - I wipe it out with a paper towel sometimes (and then bin), but I can't recycle manky foil where I live, so I reckon making the foil last longer is better.

Still using the J-cloths and sponges from when I first moved in with Mr NC. I have a couple worn-through sheets I'm in the middle of making into a pile of cot sheets, muslins and hankies - they're so beautifully soft I hate to waste them. New hankies would take ages to get that soft.
