Have they invented an energy efficient lightbulb that works with a dimmer switch yet?

If so, where can I get them?

They don't need to. Most energy efficient light bulbs are so dim that if you dimmed them you'd be in the dark

Sorry not v helpful but mostly frustrated by dim lightbulbs I can't justify replacing or chucking out!

I know what you mean Sue, the first lot of energy efficient bulbs I bought were rubbish, but I got another lot from Ikea and they're fab - they're much brighter and seem to 'warm up' much more quickly, IYSWIM

all my bulbs in my hosue are enregy ones

i have all sorts of brands

IMO the tesco value ones are my favourite and my super expensive phillips ones are the worst

I changed the light fitting in my bathroom and took the tesco value bulb out, (as no longer required) and put it where one of my hated phillips expensive bulbs was

id only ever by tesco value again!

they ahve all been in for 2 years and nonehave failed yet

There is indeed one, it was horrendously expensive. It stopped working after a few hours. That is all.

Jojay · 20/06/2008 22:46

Oh. Doesn't sound promising does it.

I've got a lightbulb from B&Q that works like a dimmer switch..I'll try to explain. It is used with a regular lightswitch. You "set" the level of brightness by turning the light switch on and off quickly to put it into dimmer mode. It then cycles through being dimm to bright - when it reaches the level of brightness you want, you turn the light switch off and back on again. It then remembers this setting - you just turn the light on and off as normal until you want to "reset" it by turning the light on and off quickly. It sounds more complicated than it is and works really well for us.
