Grey water use on veg plot

I can't seem to find any conclusive advice on the use of grey water on fruit and vegetables so I'm hoping someone here has some experience.

We are collecting bath and shower water in a water butt and only use natural shampoos etc ie those with no parabens and other nasties. We only use ecover or bicarb/ vinegar cleaning products so can we use this water on our veggies.

Some web sites say not on fruit. Others say not on fruit and veg others say it's completely fine so which advice do I believe?

We do this. Well, we've done it in other years, but this year there's been lots of rain so far! I think the concern is using possibly contaminated (faecal contamination rather than shampoo) on things you'll eat raw. Frankly, it seems a bit far fetched to me, specially when the cats and foxes make free with our veg patch! Still, could be a risk.
If you're going to do it then you do need to make sure you empty out the water butt regularly, bathwater gets truly stinky after only a day or so in the summer!
Also do try and use some rainwater as well, because they say that you can get a bit of a buildup (of what I don't know) in the soil if you just use grey water.

Mnay thanks littlefrog. Our rainwater butts are pretty empty unfortunately but I do plan to mix it up a bit where possible. Thanks again
