made to swim in paint?

TooTicky · 23/05/2008 21:07

Ridiculous, isn't it?!

it makes you wonder what they put into chocolate, if they're that worried about the effects.

those experiements are horrific

TooTicky · 23/05/2008 21:13

I think it's more that they want to prove that their products improve performance or something.
Not sure how they plan to word their claims though. How about, "Eating mars bars will help you find hidden platforms when swimming in a paint solution!"

it's beyond words really, didn't think this stuff went on now, apart from maybe medicinal experiements

Peta is a thoroughly dishonest organisation in my opinion, with a very scary fundamentalist agenda (eg pet owners are equivalent to slave owners, the use of guide dogs by the blind should be banned as it is 'using' animals). There are claims that PETA has made donations to eco-terrorist groups. The organisation tells lies in its advertising all the time - the milk campaign especially.
This is a statement from Mars itself on the subject of animal testing. It is not testing sweets on animals.

TooTicky · 24/05/2008 11:08

No smoke without fire. Yes, I know that PETA do sometimes make rash statements that tend to put people off them, but they do also publicise and help to put an end to cruel practices.

'No smoke without fire' is such a cop out. Of course there is OFTEN 'smoke without fire', which is how miscarriages of justice happen.
Peta does not just make 'rash statements'. It lies, and it has an agenda that includes banning guide dogs and riding for the disabled, and riding full stop. It also supports violent, neo-terrorist organisations that attack PEOPLE.
It is a lie that Mars tests sweets on people. If you oppose all animal experimentation in medicine, I just hope you never get diabetes or cancer, because you'll have to turn down all the treatments, won't you?

TooTicky · 24/05/2008 11:14

These people fund research which is scientifically more accurate than animal research.

OP posts:
Vivace · 24/05/2008 11:16

It's just another fundamentalist animal rights pressure group. Scientists don't conduct animal experiments for fun and entertainment. There are millions and millions people right now who owe their lives to treatments developed by animal experimentation. I trust you won't be accepting any for yourself or your family?

TooTicky · 24/05/2008 11:20

No, it's not. You obviously haven't looked at the site.
In any case, animals are different from people - you cannot accurately extrapolate results from one to the other.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 24/05/2008 11:22

Also, a great deal of animal research - even if you do consider it viable - is unnecessary as it is repetitive or tests well known and documented facts.

OP posts:
Vivace · 24/05/2008 19:57

Animal research has been and often is absolutely vital to finding cures or treatments for awful diseases.
Of course if Peta had put out a press release saying

"The confectionary company Mars has a subsidiary medical company trying to find treatments for diabetes and cancer, amoung other things, and in the course of its research, has experimented on some mice and rats, some of which have died' would that get the response it is looking for? I think not. I have put down mouse poison in my house several times to deal with infestation. And traps. I'm sure that is much more cruel than the stuff done in the search for medical breakthroughs. I also eat meat. Peta would call me a murderer. And if you keep pets, are blind and use a dog or take your child riding, then Peta would call you an abuser.

MsHighwater · 29/05/2008 13:59

Thanks for that, Vivace. I entirely support the efforts of organisations like Peta to eradicate unnecessary animal testing and to campaign against the use of real fur in fashion. But in many other respects I find them to be utterly bonkers and a bit sinister.

I eat meat and have no intention of stopping doing so, so I would be quite beyond the pale to them, I suppose.

I read the web-page and as soon as I saw that it was Peta, I started to think there had to be a more rational explanation. Thank you for providing it.
