pocket nappy problems

Hello

I've just swapped to a pocket nappy system (ooh - don't I sound all marketing speak!!). Because my little girl wriggled so much that our old system of wrap + prefold tended to fall apart.

Anyway - the problem is these pocket nappies leak. I'm having to change her clothes a couple of times a day.

She's almost one and this season she is wearing large (un)happy heineys stuffed with medium prefolds. Any ideas out there of a better solution? I'm a bit cheap and have looked into second hand nappies but so far no joy.

Do you recommend a particular brand of pocket nappies? Or a particular system of pinning your children to the floor during nappy change time?

thanks
greenwitch

Possibly they are overstuffed and wicking, or not done tight enough, or they are just the wrong shape for her.

I have only tried HH once, and then it was a couple of hours so not a good test - Nappyzone knows more.

Fuzzis tend to be a well respected one.

Wee Notions are gorgeous and very reliable ime.

I have been lent nature babies stuffables for my littlest and so far they are fab, although I did find I was having to add an extra booster from my motherease. I do like the motherease (shaped) and would recommend them if you decide pockets are not for you, I used them birth to potty on the older 2, and will again when dd2 is bigger.

I really liked pocket nappies once my boys became wriggly. Unfortunately you do have to find the right fit for each child. Unlike readytoswiggin, I never found the nature babies stuffables to work on my boys. Instead we loved Happy Heinys!

Are you sure she is in the right size? L sounds a bit big for a 1 year old. Even by 2 years I think my boys were only wearing M sized ones. (They are 6 and 4 now so apologies if my memory is a bit hazy.)

I also bought some home-made stuffable nappies by Corina at PitterPatter nappies. If she's still around I would recommend hers. They come up a bit smaller and might fit better.

We used a few Minkis too but they are bulkier than Happy Heinys/Pitter Patter so I generally kept them for nighttimes.

I know it works out quite expensive to buy them all new. Perhaps you could keep a look out on here and other nappy selling sites and gradually build up your selection.

I've got some fuzzibunz, happy heineys, bumgenius and drybees adn am pretty happy with all of them. the new style fuzzis seem bigger than the old and as such have a bit more adjustability. The happy heineys are great, mine are the one size ones which seem to have lots of overlap on the waist. The drybees are great too, and the cheapest of the ones I have but they could do with corss over velcro on the tabs for more adjustability.

I started off with two parters as well, and now love the pockets, but they didn't suit DD when she was little.

and I change her on my lap to prevent her trying to escape, but even that is getting to be a bit of a challenge now.

I also found that the pockets need to be changed a bit more often than the two parters, and generally change DD every two to three hours these days, but could usually get 4 with a two part system. It could be that the pockets are a bit on the big side. That would probably cause leakages.

i used fuzzis with ds1 and they leaked all the time. I tried so many stuffings, but in the end got rid of them. I swear by motherease wraps and underneath we have toddle-ease for ds1 and his cast off bumbles and fluffles for ds2.

i would not use a pocket again personally, but they do work for some babies.

try giving babe a toy to play with when changing that you rotate every so often so it is interesting. look at this for tips. i hope you find a solution!

I used mainly pocket nappies once DD was a year old. My best advice would be..don't use a poppered vest with them. The vests would wriggle up the side of the nappies and cause wicking. I would also make sure I stuffed right to the edges- a microfibre cloth (3 for 99p in Tesco cleaning section) was very useful for wrapping around the pre-fold and getting to the edges neatly.
I used Fuzzis, Wonderoos, Swaddlebees (very slim fitting, can only hold one wee) and Minkis (lovely)!

I use the HH onesize on the I think medium setting. I stuff them with both the small AND large HH boosters and they work great. No idea if that is any help at all!

I never ever got on with pocket nappies and ended up with HemPresto nappies which go on like an all in one but come apart for washing - the nappy part poppers to the wrap. They are absolutely fantastic. They are as good as a 2 part system as the nappy is elasticated, you can boost it and the wraps are like Motherease Air flow. Very expensive new though.

I have 9 wraps and I think 20 nappies with boosters (hemp boosters very absorbant and open out to dry flat) which I need to sell - let me know if you're interested, I'm happy to sell a few to see what you think IYSWIM

My little girl is also coming up one and I have had a similar problem. She's so wriggly too. I have tried pocket nappies of all types but all seemed to leak so I suggest sticking with Motherease and as a solution to the wriggling I try giving DD my car keys or something she can rattle or suck (which you only use for nappy time!) . I also count to three and she knows that on three I'll blow a raspberry on her tummy which means she stays still and waits for it to happen!...just count slowly and hopefully the nappy's been whipped on by then!

CarGirl · 29/05/2008 16:24

The dd I bought the hempresto system for was the youngest of 3 who I had in cloth - she was a nightmare - a very determined little girl!
