Is there a good eco-friendly washing up liquid out there?

Because Ecover is crap.

Hmm?

Try on ecotopia.com, there is one called Clear Spring or something.

I get on fine with Ecover personally.

MotherofUBERboys · 19/04/2008 11:23

dishwashers are apparently the eco friendliest way to wash dishes, so there you go; you need a dishwasher.

WigWamBam · 19/04/2008 14:44

Thanks for that, PP. I have been persevering with Ecover for months but it takes so much soaking and scrubbing to shift grease that any ecological advantage is lost because of the waste of water. Plus unless I use gallons of the stuff, everything ends up still feeling slightly greasy when it's washed and dried.

I have neither the money nor the room for a dishwasher, sadly.

Ecover works well for me. I do use water that is hot enough to melt steel though.

WigWamBam · 19/04/2008 14:59

So do I, policywonk. I still end up having to leave it soaking for hours, then replacing the water and scrubbing until my hands ache!

I spotted Bio-D on the ecotopia website - might give it a go. Thanks!

reckon the differences in effectiveness might be due to water hardness/softness. maybe.
not that that helps.

anything on here?

CrossnessMaureen · 19/04/2008 18:01

I use Ecover quite happily, but stick the whites in with some nuclear Persil from time to time, and use a Vanish stick beforehand on grease or anything stainy-looking.

I didn't like Ecover powder.

WigWamBam · 19/04/2008 18:49

I don't think I'll be putting my crocks in the washing machine just yet, Maureen (It's washing-up liquid I'm after!).

Thanks for the link, MOUB.

I'm really surprised you find Ecover ineffective, it works a treat for me and has done wherever I've lived.

Never used Bio-D washing up liquid, but their toilet cleaner made my bathroom stink of oysters for weeks, stained our bath, gave DP a rash on his hand (all of this was from clearing up a spill btw, not any esoteric practices ) and worst of all, completely failed to clean the toilet.

TheBlonde · 19/04/2008 19:03

Never had any trouble with ecover but I do use a fair bit of it
but then it's not concentrated like fairy or the others is it?

WigWamBam · 19/04/2008 21:47

No, it's not concentrated.

I want to like it, I really do. I want to find it effective but after using it for six months, I don't.

And I now don't fancy Bio-D at all, given that description of it, cyteen!!

don't most of the supermarkets do their own eco versions these days - I think I saw something called cleanhome in Sains

WigWamBam · 19/04/2008 22:03

Haven't seen anything.

Perhaps I just haven't looked closely enough!

Will check next time I'm there.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 19/04/2008 22:05

Clearspring is great.

CrossnessMaureen · 20/04/2008 00:33

Clearly I am not 'concentrated'.

But use ecover washing up liquid, too - what you need is a Vileda Active wave scourer!

sushistar · 20/04/2008 01:23

Love ecover liquid, and found bio-d just the same.

Are you using HOT water?

WigWamBam · 20/04/2008 10:02

Very hot water, yes - but still find it useless!

I have some decent scourers too but still have to spend ages scrubbing.

Dd finds the Ecover makes brilliant bubble stuff, so it's not completely wasted ...

dylsmum1998 · 20/04/2008 23:47

i use asda's version of eco-cover, or tesco's wherever i am shopping. and find them brilliant. have no probs with cleaning dishes etc
no probs using them, can even use them without gloves, cant use the likes of fairy etc as with one load of dishes my hands crack and bleed.
