Anyone make their own washing line from scratch?

I was thinking of the one my mum had in her old house, you know, 2 concrete posts with the line in between so the clothes can blow around and dry quick. Currently we string the line from fence to fence but it blocks the view. A concrete post is prob out of question, has anyone had any sucess with metal or wooden poles with line in between (Not interested in the rotary/retractable type - not yet anyway!)

yes you can get long poles in wickes, just cement them in

the guy who used to live here did mine

one end attaches to the house... the other is a post cemented in to the ground

If you use v tall poles ( old scaffolding ones from a reclamation yeard perhaps?) you can get pulley things from DIY places so that you can hoik the line right up high so it doesn't block view/flap in your face, and be able to pull it down to an easier height for pegging out/taking down.

Tish Suzy...what about growing your own cotton and mining your own iron with which to fashion nails.
