I should shop locally. I actually shop at Tescos.

I should... but can find excuses for all of them!
Public transport (expensive/intermittent in countryside)
Real nappies (last child nearly at potty training stage)
And start composting (but the rodent thread scared me off)

Biggest guilt is throwing away food - no excuse.

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2008 20:19

yes, you're right boogie...there's usually only a little bit left in there but there is a blood in sink situation involved

honestly, I didn't think I could hack it before I took the plunge and got one
but it is SO not a problem

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2008 20:19

Filly very sorry about your friend

Maidamess · 01/04/2008 20:21

I should recycle more...but can't stand the smell or mess.

I shouldn't have driven round to the chippy tonight. In fact in MN world, I probably shouldn't have gone to the chippy at all. So forget I said that.

I shouldn't have my heating on and my windows open.

I shouldn't use my Tumble Dryer.

And as for mooncups...give me a break!

scampadoodle · 01/04/2008 20:21

I have my central heating on a lot in the winter as I feel the cold & our house isn't a warm one.

I use bleach (along with Ecover for everything else )

I do have a tumble dryer but I don't use it that much.

Don't use a mooncup.

sushistar · 01/04/2008 22:46

sparkleymummy, for your compostable kitchen waste you want one of these - you can wait until it's full and then take it on the Long March!

Fillyjonk · 02/04/2008 06:43

oh she is absolutely fine now franny, was just not nice though.

And it has NOTHING to do with mooncups! I'm just feeling a bit nervous about anything like that atm. Aaaargh I do not want to stop people from using mooncups, I mean they have to be cleaner than tampons, surely?

(because they are made of silicon and I think its harder for bacteria to breed on silicon, though not sure why I think that)

sparkleymummy · 02/04/2008 08:59

Oh that's good wendy. Will order one when they're in stock

lljkk · 02/04/2008 11:11

MumsNetting, this is a big indulgence (uses electricity). We have way too many computers, and DC spend way too much time at screens.
CAR -- we managed fine without one for many years, and I now make journeys I simply wouldn't have bothered with before when we didn't have the car.

You don't need to sterilise the mooncup.. do you sterilise anything else that goes up there?

twentypence · 15/04/2008 23:48

Eating lots of meat (especially as it isn't organic)

I walk or cycle to and from school every day, but ds is going to another school at the end of the year and that one is 10km away. I hate myself for that one and I haven't done it yet!

nannyL · 17/04/2008 22:41

i am very good with most things

(heating on low; well insulated house; newish efficient bolier with regualr servicing; economical car (though it is petrol); recycle everything possible; use envirnmentally cleaning products... ecover, white vinegar, soda crystals etc, use soap nuts for washing, use a mooncup, have washable bits of fleece instead of cotton wool; whilst i own a tumble dryer i have honestly not even used it once in the past 12 months (i line dry my washing); energy lightbulbs etc etc ... I ahve also just come back from a nearly new sale with all profits going to save the children where i have bought stuff i would have bought anyway, but stuff someone else doesnt want... i guestimate £120 worth of stuff i needed for £18 )

i am not so good at composting (it attracts rodents)

and i do enjoy my long hot baths

i try to by localy (and often succeed) just not always

I NEVER consume battery poultry or non british pork etc

sushistar · 20/04/2008 01:26

NannyL, the thread was for our guilty un-eco secrets!!

All of the above and I don't give a hoot. I only recycle because the Council thought police force me to. I refuse to feel guilty.

chipmonkey · 20/04/2008 01:50

I put plastic spoons in the ds's luncboxes for their yoghurts I was spending a fortune on proper teaspoons, even cheap ones because they kept losing them. Oddly enough, with the plastic spoons, they seem to nearly always bring them home!

chipmonkey · 20/04/2008 01:51

I live in the country and my composter has never attracted rodents. Some fantastically fat slugs live in the composter though!

KatieScarlett2833 · 20/04/2008 03:09

By not concreting over my large garden to avoid the constant maintenance, I am supporting an entire eco-system of flora and fauna.
By getting my in-laws to come down every week to keep the worst of the grounds at bay, I am encouraging the elderly to keep fit and healthy and fill up my brown recycling bin.
By refusing to taxi my kids around on demand, I am actually reducing my carbon footprint and that will be my new excuse for making them walk when I can't be bothered to drive.
By eating junk food like crisps and chocolate as meal replacements, I'm not lazy, I'm merely saving the planet by not burning fossil fuels to cook.

I'm off to collect my free Yurt, I think I deserve it.
