What can I do with these other than the bag of them? I find the bag gets a bit Minging.

Is there an eco use? Can I grate the. Into a usable cleaning agent? 😆

I wanted to know the same! So will be interesting to read more.

Squash them together when wet. then use them. Did this in the War.

@Allshallbewell2021 by bag, do you mean something like these?

Yes I have two of those but the family won't use them so I was wondering whether there was anything else I could do.

My grandfather used to squidge leftover soap together to make a new bar to use in his workshop sink. I used to think it looked so beautiful, all the colours mixed together, and want to wash my hands before lunch in his workshop instead of the bathroom when I was a child 😂

I think you can get moulds to squish the soap in to make a new bar.

Bar soap is a good stain remover for laundry so you could save it for that. You can make liquid soap from bar soap.

Thank you! I've found the 'kind store'

1	Grate your soap bar of choice and bring water to boil either in a kettle or a pan.
2	Slightly reduce the heat and add grated soap into the pan and stir gently until the grated soap has dissolved into the hot water. This takes around 5 minutes.
3	Take the pan off the heat and let the soap cool down a bit.
4	Pour the liquid soap into your pump bottle using a funnel, if needed or a heat resistant jug. And you’re good to go! If the soap hardens too much as it cools down, just add a bit of hot water, shake, and you are sorted.
5	You will find the soap settles nearer the bottom so just give it a shake once in a while. Your liquid soap should last months.

I just add the old bit to the new soap 🤷‍♂️

soggyfields · 19/03/2024 12:58

All these ideas are nice, but I can't be bothered. I just stick the old bit on the new bar.

This is what I do. Once you've used them a couple of times squashed together and they've dried out a couple of times, they are pretty much stuck together for life.

I live in a country where most people use bar soaps. We just stick the old one to the new bar.

BeauSignoles · 22/03/2024 03:45

I melt mine together with water in thr microwave and add some glycerine and er voila - liquid soap. Only takes a few minutes.

Meadowfinch · 22/03/2024 06:01

I grate it and use it for handwashing silks and woollens.

Pudmyboy · 04/05/2024 09:23

Thank you, I had something like this from Betterware decades ago, so glad to see they are still available!

Same. Use it till it’s just a sliver and then stick it to the new one for the last one or two uses.

Cheeesus · 04/05/2024 09:31

I feel like spending £20 on a bit of kit to save the tiny bit of soap is a bit of an own goal in terms of money and energy use (in making the kit).

ErrolTheDragon · 04/05/2024 09:49

We have liquid hand soap but use bar bath soap. DH gives up on a bar when it's about half used - I take them and can use them down to invisibility. So we don't have any old bits of soap.

DeepLemonBeaker · 03/03/2026 19:38

This is what I do!

Me too. I have quite a collection. I used to use them for bubbles at school (Nursery/Reception) but now I'm retired.

I can never make it stick on.

Brefugee · 03/03/2026 19:43

i use my soap in an exfoliating wash bag, When it's nearly gone i get a new bag (I have several of them) and put a new bar in, and add the old small piece to it. (then i wash the bag and add it to the pile)

largeprintagathachristie · 03/03/2026 19:46

Just add it to the new bar.
(Get both really wet, lather up while squeezing them together slightly, then squeeze hard and leave to dry).
