A 'how best to dispose of used tissues' argument

if you put them in the bin they end up as landfill and never decompose

if you flush them down the loo they get treated with the sewage and might end up as useful fertiliser or might go to landfill anyway having used more energy in the process

What alardi said - in landfill anything that would otherwise rot aerobically in your compost rots anaerobically and produces methane, which is a much worse greenhouse gas than CO2

so perhaps the people who throw their used tissues out of their car windows into the hedgerows are actually being environmentally conscious?

throckenholt · 05/03/2008 13:57

but methane degrades in the atmosphere over time so it's effect is more short term and not as cumulative as carbon dioxide (I think).

Use loo roll instead, then you can flush it away without worrying it'll block the drains.
