Thanks to very kind GP's, we are now the carers for frog spawn. We don't have a pond but a kitchen window, which i am sure is not the best place. So, how can we keep our spawn, (the boys now keep a close eye on it and are very interested), whilst given our future tadpoles/frogs a happy home.

I don't think they need a pond yet. Keep watching and keeping them warm.

Thanks, but is a kitchen window in the sun OK? They were hatching lastnight, and all seem to be at the bottom of the jar, shattered or shhhhhh dead, i'm not sure. DC are starting to ask, why arn't they swimming mummy? I was wondering if we should make a pond using the basin, then collecting bits from the river. I would really like to launch the whole jar in the river. I couldn't cope with the tears of losing the new pets though.

We did this a couple of years ago, sank a large plastic washing up basin into the ground, put bits of traily things from the river in, and used an inverted hanging basket as a sort of guard against cats or anyone else who might be interested. It worked quite well, but we were amazed at how miniscule the final frogs were! No more than a little fingernail.
