Argh! A kettle that doesn't need replacing every year (or 2)??

Hello
Not only is it costing me a fortune but feeling so guilty regularly throwing kettles away. I have tried investing in a decent one, tried cheap ones. Any suggestions please? Pref stainless steel interior and no plastic anywhere inside incl the heating coil.
I'm in a hard water area, very hard actually. Clean with vinegar and sometimes wonder if its this that causes the deterioration...?
TIA

Do you leave water standing in it? Mine have started lasting longer since I made sure it was empty unless in use.
My electric showers only last 3 years though.

I’ve given up buying expensive kettles as they last no longer than the cheap ones - 3 years on average I reckon.

Sorry not to be more help, but you are not the only one having this problem!

I have a 10 year old dualit classic that is still happily trundling along. I don’t live in a hard water area though.

I had a breville kettle that lasted for 14 years and still. Working when I donated it
Stainless steel but still has a bit of plastic in filter inside
I too was on the lookout do rno plastic kettle and the closest was de longhi icona but didn't buy it as it was expensive, my friend has it for some years and looks good and substantial
I now have a Hayden, less plastic bits for almost 4 years and is good

We use a hob kettle. Had it for about 10 years now. We chuck a bit of vinegar in it every now and then to get rid of the limescale (also have hard water).

Both dualit and grevillea have served me well in a hard water area. Use a descaled once in a while.

Our dualit (not sure what model but it’s all metal inside and mostly outside too) has lasted 6 years so far. We are in a very hard water area.

We get cheap kettles and they last ages. The last one about 8 years, and it was the lid part that broke.
How do you use them? We only boil pretty much exactly what we need. Boil multiple times a day. Descale about once every two years. We're in a hard water area, but the scale doesn't flake loose and there's a filter if it does.

Our Dualit has been going for years and years.

I also live in a very hard water area and my dualit has lasted about 10 years. My mum went through about 10 cheapo kettles in as many years although she did drink more tea than me

would it help if you filtered your water?

I've had a Russel Hobbs kettle (mainly glass, plastic handle and lid) for 5 years now, haven't cleaned it once. We are in Scotland though so no hard water.

So obviously it’s going to explode now but ice had a little cheap red kettle (£10.99) from Tesco for 14 years now … I drink loads of tea and coffee so it’s well used! Oh interesting … I’m in Scotland too. Maybe the water?

We've got very hard water and I used to buy a new kettle every couple of years. I bought a Dualit just over eight years ago and it's as good as new.

Mine is a value one, had it a good while and I also prefer metal inside but they are difficult to find unless you buy the fashionable ones that leak. It has a metal element which is not covered, like the old style kettles. I am not a fan of decorative things that leak after a short time, and Amazon reviews are useful even if you buy elsewhere.

Trying to work out how old my Dualit is. I reckon it's about 21 years old, same as my toaster.

we bought a russell hobbs "quiet" kettle a couple of years ago. I have to say ive never noticed it being particularly quiet (DH bought it, Im not sure he noticed it was an alleged quite kettle!) We live in a really hard water area so do need to descale it quite regularly.
However a couple of months ago the switch to turn it on fell off.🙄Its easy enough to wedge it on again so now it falls off each time the kettle is boiled (and the lever goes down), and we put it on again when we switch it on!😂I felt aggrieved to buy a new kettle when its only a few years old!
Sorry thats no help other than to put you off buying the alleged quiet kettle!

I love my Dualit. It's a plastic one that won't fit your requirements, but I'm adding my voice to the choir on here singing the brand's praises, quality and reliability-wise.

KitcheAid lasts forever. They also have a very long guarantee period.

Forgot to add: I clean mine with diluted vinegar and no issues.

The only one that has survived between me and my Mum is the boil on the hob one. Electric kettles fail, but that one just keeps going (she has both as has solar panels, so uses the hob when overcast or dark)

You really have to keep on top of descaling if you have hard water. I find the ones with plastic inside don't scale as badly but then their rubbish little hinges and switches break.

We are in a hard water area. Last kettle, second hand, no idea of age, not a brand name or expensive looking, lasted 5 years.

We have a Sage kettle have had it for about 5 years it is stainless steel and even though we live in a hard water area it descales easily.

I’m in a hard water area and my current kettle has lasted far longer than any other has - must be over 5 years old. Breville Impressions.

I use Oust sachets to descale every now and again.
