I have been thinking about this.. and realise I am in position to have some choice and many are not.
For me
-trying not to place emphasis on having but doing
-appreciate nature.. sitting in garden, walking, cold blustery windy days and sunny days ( I still struggle with rain!)
-appreciating time is short , we don’t have forever, making the most of moments
-prioritising happiness instead of accumulating money
-embracing colour and music and books
-work hard to be a good partner, to cultivate good deep friendships
-love my animals

@thedevilinablackdress "The odd exciting holiday, but just as happy on camping trips, pottering around and staring into the distance."

Same with me. Sitting in the garden, or a nice coffee shop, or on a pretty river bank, or a nice bench and staring into the distance is one of life's great pleasures!

Posey I've always been this way I think, we lived in a modest house for years when all our 'contempories' were rushing to buy bigger and better houses; we then relocated to a quieter (& cheaper) part of the country, we made a conscious choice to have just one DC, I made a deliberate choice to work part time in a job that I love but doesn't pay very well (yes I know I am lucky to have the choice but it was tied up with moving to a cheaper part of the country and having one DC), my hobbies and interests are around Church and volunteering ... mostly low stress and surrounding myself with people who share my values.
In fact if anything my life during the pandemic was busier ... my volunteering commitments continued because I was providing a valuable service which was 'allowed' and so I was out and about in the community more than many others. But it gave me a huge sense of achievement, nothing to do with salary or status, and hopefully I was doing 'some good'.

Laurie I agree that paying off mortgage is crap! It does give some security n the future though.
I think being satisfied with life is important. Not striving for bigger hose/better cars. Not putting yourself under huge stress for material gain.
I feel very lucky to have a house, to have sufficient food and warmth.
I am generous with others.. that’s important to me. I don’t want lots whilst others have nothing,

This thread reminded me that I kept meaning to find time to go for a proper walk. For a 'climb to the top of a hill', get away from people, exhilarating, deep breaths, walk. So I did. And I loved every minute of it! Must make this part of my routine.

Not having to fill every minute of the day with 'doing things' ... many people seem to pride themselves with being 'busy' all the time ... just being alone and doing 'nothing' is one of my greatest pleasures in life Smile .... or am I just lazy?

Nope. It's a great thing to do 😍

I agree. Busyness is exhausting.

Listening to other people talk about their busyness is exhausting too.
