Tween and young teen girl ethical clothing??

It’s been easy so far as my daughter’s been happy in hand-me-downs and eBay purchases but now she’s just obsessed with wanting clothes from places like Shein. Having not really even bought anything new for years for myself I am really struggling to buy this kind of thing for her. I also really don’t want to promote fast fashion as something that’s ok. We’ve had a few good times trawling vintage shops in Bristol but she just wants to fit in and just isn’t quite old and confident enough to rock the indie vintage look, she basically just wants to wear what her friends are wearing (understandably).
I just wondered if anyone in the eco realm of mumsnet had any experience. Do you just give in here and there but still try and instill the message of not buying fast fashion or have you found any great clothing companies that are ethical and appealing to young teens? The closest I’ve got is saying we can go to H&M but take in some old clothes for them to recycle and look at their organic cotton range…. though that’s pretty limited.

I am in a similar position with both my dc op. Ds is in to JD sports wear and dd has started asking for stuff from Shein… it really messes with my head!

I second looking on vinted for shein items you often get 'new with tags' as people cba to return them so just sell them on at a small loss, I have shopped at shein twice directly before I knew quite how bad it was and one think that is good about it is it clearly lists the materials on the website and you can filter your search by them, you could teach your daughter about different materials and say search for cotton or viscose and rule out 100 percent acrylic or polyester, the clothes will last longer and be much nicer to wear, some of the poly stuff is so terribly made and must be so sweaty!

Can also teach her about looking closely at images to see how thin some of the clothes are (look at skirts between legs for a good idea!)

A couple of the things I got from shein were actually no worse quality than h&m but a couple of things were unwearable.

It's still absolutely not ethical of course but might help her be a bit more discerning and at least think a bit more about purchases.

It's a tough one! My daughter is only 4 and almost exclusively in hand me downs and vinted.... But I can absolutely see the pressure to change that when she's older!
