SOAP NUTS - Do they actually get POO out of clothes?

PinkPussyCat · 05/01/2008 13:52

I would like to use soap nuts for ds's clothes as he has eczema, but I am still a bit sceptical as to how well they will actually work...if ds manages to poo on his clothes, I would normally wash that at 60 degrees (with non-bio powder). Otherwise all washes are 40 degrees.
Do they really work on poo?
TIA

I use a washball instead of soap nuts and it does get most of the stains out of most things. However, I do need to wash at 60 degrees (albeit a short wash), so not as environmentally friendly as I'd like, but at least no detergents used.

Thanks Go, I was beginning to wonder where everyone was! I might give the washball a try...where did you get yours from?

I have more than half a bag i can send to you to try, i found them disapointing, my clothes ending up greying and staying stained! cat me if interested

Soap nuts have got poo, and other bodily fluids out of our clothes. They are great on darks, come out clean, and smell nice, but I've been a bit disappointed with the whites, so have gone back to conventional tabs for them.

Pink got mine from Lakeland for about a tenner. lasts about 100 washes though. they also do liquid soap nuts which haven't tried but have heard they're good.

Yesterday I did a dark wash, with soap nuts 30deg, quick wash. It included; my underwear (AF no protection , my very smelly running clothes, DS2 PJs he'd weed in, DS1 very muddy rugby clothes, and DH fragrant stuff . All clean, and smelt lovely, and it was a challenge for any washer

WillyWonka · 10/01/2008 12:55

I get my soapnuts from inasoapnutshell.com they're loads cheaper than Lakeland. I use them together with Ecover stain remover, where needed, and have found that this tackles all but the most hardcore stains. My 6mo dd regularly leaks bright yellow poo onto clothes and they all come out sparkling in the wash

littleducks · 10/01/2008 13:13

have received cat msg, will send as soon as i can

BroccoliSpears · 10/01/2008 13:24

Am just looking at inasoapnutshell.com - should I get soapnut shells or soapnut pieces?

PinkPussyCat · 10/01/2008 14:31

No worries littleducks - there's no great rush by any means

Broccoli - I had no idea they came in pieces, sorry can't help! Can they send you a sample?

I used soapnuts on DS nappies before he was weaned onto solids....and ended up with bright yellow nappies
