Washable incontinence products

Hopefully someone here might be able to help. My mother had nocturnal urinary incontinence but is relatively mobile and alert and does a lot of her own self care. She uses incontinence pads but for many reasons, I think washable products would be better for her and her home care situation.

I have googled briefly but the period pants on offer don't really seem likely to hold enough urine to be effective, seeing how much urine is absorbed by the disposable pads.

I have looked at Wuka and Cheeky Wipes but would be grateful if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction. Making them myself is not a feasible solution and she lives in Ireland, so that might also be a consideration.

(I have also posted in Elderly Parents.. in case someone sees it there as well..)

When you say nocturnal, I'm assuming your mum's incontinent in bed rather than just at night/in the evening whilst still up? If so, something like a Kylie might be useful? It's basically a washable incontinence sheet (looks a bit like a washable puppy pad). Something like that with period pants may work, the pants might stop urine running on to the floor if your mum gets up just after being incontinent (reducing the risk of wetting the carpet/floor and potentially causing a slipping hazard) whilst the Kylie could absorb anything the pants don't hold.

Is your mum happy to try washable products?

I haven’t yet broached the subject of trying them yet…. she has appropriate covering for her bedding and I don’t want to suggest a solution that adds to the problem like causing her bed to be wet at night. It is only when she is asleep but she also gets up at night to wee. Possibly exacerbated by medications.

Washable pads from honour your flow are good

ChateauMargaux · 02/02/2022 11:12

Thansk @ihaveonecat.. my sister sent me a link to honour your flow..

The description "Weak Bladder Rating: 5 Hardly any bladder control, heavy urge incontinence. But this pad won't take a full bladder" made me slightly concerned... but I think I might give them a go, maybe with extra inserts.

It's the logistics that might need a little thinking but thank you for your thoughts...
