I got my hair done for the first time in well over a year, usually I go twice a year because I don't like making small talk or spending hours sitting about, I don't find it relaxing at all. I got a cut and colour, my roots were quite long and the ends of my hair were quite dry. I went to a new hairdresser in town (small town, not London or anywhere near a city).
Straight away she asked me what shampoo/conditioner I use. I use Beauty Kubes and have done for a while due to wanting to cut palm oil out as much as possible and be more ethical in various ways and said that I don't use conditioner but sometimes rub a bit of coconut oil through the ends. The hairdresser let out a gasp and said I should be using a clarifying shampoo and a good conditioner. Later on she said to one of the other hairdressers "This client doesn't use conditioner, I've told her she should be using one" I was quite surprised and felt like a naughty child but didn't say anything. Of course they have various products for sale that they recommend and I did ask about one of those products but didn't buy it (my hair cost a lot as it was!). I'm assuming they're full of nasties despite smelling yummy!
Anyone else had this experience? In the past when I've told hairdressers at other salons that I don't use "product" or SLS shampoo etc they usually don't challenge me and have even seemed interested when I've told them about the alternative products I use (at one point I'd tried no-poo but it didn't work for me; I have been using Beauty Kubes for a couple of years now and they're great). I see Beauty Kubes do a conditioner so I might try that. I was just
at the hairdresser's reaction, it made me feel a bit uneasy about going back there.
