started reading the 'mooncupWTF??' thread. and discovered washable sanitary pads..

i have no need for a mooncup as i barely have periods, but these sound interesting..

i saw the post on that thread and was curious, dont know if i could get my head round washing my own sanitary towels though, they make you look like youve parted with much more than you really have iyswim

preggersagain · 06/10/2007 15:16

kiskidee · 06/10/2007 15:17

and here i was thinking it was something I could take a nap in.....

[disappointed.]

preggersagain · 06/10/2007 15:18

i think they're great, all i do is soak mine overnight before washing them with my whites load (although i'm having a blissful 9 months off af atm! )

Lulumama · 06/10/2007 15:21

thanks so much everyone ! i found flame's small business ad on here and have left her a message

am all excited now, i was really disappoitend to not need a mooncup, and now i can have these instead ! it had never occurred to me to look for an eco friendly. ethical alternative to sanitary pads

how many do you use daily?

preggersagain · 06/10/2007 15:28

on a heavy day 5-6, light flow 4, atm i'm using liners so 2 a day pelvic floor is not what it was

francagoestohollywood · 06/10/2007 15:32

thanks preggers (and congratulations), I'm very tempted.

Flamesparrow · 06/10/2007 22:43

I much prefer reusables - none of the plasticky sweaty feeling.

I don't soak mine - I chuck them in the nappy bucket and wash when I do the washing. Most of mine are tie dye though so any stains don't notice (I siphon off a small pot of dye each time I have an order and chuck another couple in )

IdrisTheDragon · 06/10/2007 22:45

I use washable sanitary pads - I have no problems with them. Don't tend to soak them - find the blood just comes out really (and most of them are red, so it doesn't really matter anyway).

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/10/2007 21:36

I use popolini ones that I got from one of the nappy websites a while back. I use them alternated with always type pads on my heavy days, depending on work commitments.
I seem to have less flow when I use them and they are very comfortable, no sweaty crotch!
For nights I use hourglass shaped nappy boosters, much better and comfortable than plastic night pads.
For now I bung em in the nappy bucket but will prob put them in a coloureds wash when ds2 potty trained.

laura032004 · 08/10/2007 07:55

I made my own [smug emoticon]. I was making some nappy liners at the time, and thought I'd give it a go. I cut up some old sweatshirts, and made three or four layers of that, with a layer of brushed cotton pyjamas. I did buy some originally, but a lot had a fleece layer, which I don't find very comfortable. I love them, so much comfier than always. I just soak them in a bucket of cold water, then throw in with the nappy wash. No problems at all. If you rinse them by hand, it does look like somebody has been murdered in the bathroom though!

arabelladelahaye · 12/10/2007 21:56

Apparently your plants thrive if you water them with the water from your pad soaking bucket!

Apparently women invented agriculture because we had 1) lots of the best fertiliser in the world 2) a built in clock showing the months.

moljam · 12/10/2007 22:19

i love them.much nicer and comfier than plastic crap and think how much money you can save.no running out and having to pop to shops.i soak mine in salty water.
