not sure what to do with old car seat...

DD has outgrown her first stage car seat. We don't plan to have any more children, and we don't know anybody who needs a new car seat. Is it ethical to sell it or give it away to a stranger (e.g. by Freecycle) when they would have no way of knowing whether it has been in an accident?

I know that it is in perfect condition (it was used for 10 months and wasn't involved in so much as an emergency stop), but should I encourage somebody else to take this on trust?

On the other hand, it seems such a waste just to take it to the tip.

What is the ethical thing to do with a used carseat?

I'm selling mine.
It hasn't been in a carcrash either so is perfectly good.

agree with moondog

I don't see how it can be unethical when you know that it is sound (or, at least, know of no reason why it should not be sound). It does seem terribly wasteful that all these car eats get thrown away.

set fire to it in the garden, best thing to do

TheBlonde · 05/10/2007 20:42

sell or freecycle

in Sweden you can buy them used in shops!

Or tip it in the river....

Volvos come from Sweden. If they think its OK to sell second hand carseats it must be OK.

I bought a second hand carseat from a friend, and felt fine about it, as I knew it's back ground.

You could offer it to a womens' refuge. Sometimes the women and children arrive in emergency circumstances with just the clothes on their backs, and no baby equipment (if they can't drive and have no car they would'nt have a baby seat) If the refuge didn't want to use it in a car for health and safety reasons they could still use it as a baby seat.
