Tetrapak recycling - does your council do it?

Have just discovered that our local council has now started recycling tetrapaks! Found this excellent interactive map that shows which councils do and don't - still a lot that don't .

Mine are just starting a trial - one collection point in town.

The interactive map says my local Tescos collect them, which isn't the case.

ChasingSquirrels · 03/10/2007 21:07

one of the local(ish) tesco's do, I just save them up as I don't go there very often. Off to check the map. Also need to petition local council for doorstep plastics collections - all the local plastics bins are always overflowing.

Tortington · 03/10/2007 21:12

mine has just started

Yes, but apparently the containers are shipped out to far east to a special factory that does it, not sure how env. good that is in the end.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 04/10/2007 10:13

I thought there was a place in scotland that had started doing it (processing I mean). Agree sometimes its questionable in the end but I the cargo ships are probably empty on the return journey having shipped loads of crap into the country so shipping them out there does not use any extra fuel. Not necessarily good for locals health although does provide employment I suppose.

Ours has just started doing it. Makes a big difference to the bin.

aDead · 04/10/2007 10:14

nope and it's annoying tbh

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/10/2007 10:19

Our council doesn't but that's because no-where in UK to recycle it so it gets shipped out of the UK

There was a place in Scotland that were doing it but they have now closed down (so my DH tells me....he is in the packaging business and responsible for environmental policy for the food company he works for)

bagpuss · 04/10/2007 10:21

Ours do, in fact there is a bank across the road from our house which is very handy.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 07/10/2007 21:41

no and it really annoys me.

Smithagain · 08/10/2007 11:04

Yes! Have just found a nice, shiny new bin at our recycling centre and am stupidly excited about it

laura032004 · 08/10/2007 17:54

No according to the map, and I've been chucking mine in the recycling bin for ages

Mojomummy · 16/10/2007 22:01

If anyone has an open fire, or multifuel stove, they make exellent firestarters.

MadMazza · 16/10/2007 22:04

Yes, our local recycling point now has a separate bin for recycling tetrapacks - we put them in the same box as the glass jars and separate them out when we get there!

busybusymummy · 07/11/2007 15:37

Just seen that both Sainsburys and Waitrose have recycling points here! Hurrah!

tigerschick · 07/11/2007 15:54

According to the map our area does but I've been to most of the banks listed and I've never seen anywhere to put them!
What bugs me is that my nearest recycling bank is in the village about a mile away. So that's where I take our things, but the people in the village have kerbside collections!

imaginewittynamehere · 07/11/2007 16:09

Yep mine does - the only positive change in recyling since my move from oxfordshire.

mw14 · 08/11/2007 13:15

I checked the Recycle Now website, which told me a particular location in my town took Tetra Pak. This is the site I use for glass, paper, cans and plastic, and I had never seen a Tetra Pak skip there. One e-mail to East Herts Council later, I found that in fact the Tetra Pak should be placed in the plastics skip. The Council had sent a monitoring officer who discovered that there was no sign indicating this; they have promised to place a notice at the site. I'll find out when I next visit whether they have in fact done so.
