Air Source Pump

Has anyone got any experience of air source pumps connected to existing radiators? Our 22 year old oil boiler is getting a bit unreliable. We are seriously considering replacing it with an air source pump, and have asked a company to do a survey.
They sent us to see a family who had one installed last year, although they are similar to us in some ways, (house about the same age, microbore pipes, megaflow water system) they had their air source installed just after they moved in, so they cannot compare costs. So if you have a retrofitted ASP could you give us an idea of any cost savings? We have been quoted about 50% of current heating costs that is 100% saving on oil but increased electricity.
Our other concern is the noise as our pump would be about 6 feet from the neighbours' outside covered seating area , separated by 6 foot fence admittedly. The one we saw yesterday seemed quiet but they live next to a field, so neighbours were not an issue!

I have some concerns. If, as seems the aim, "everyone" heats their home this way, won't taking all that heat out of the air affect the ambient air temperature, if not enough the affect climate, enough, locally, to affect the effectiveness of the heating?

And yes, they are noisy, ugly things to have on the outside of your house in close proximity to neighbours and your own garden. If you're planning to site it where it doesn't affect your garden that answers your own question about the neighbours
