Period pants

My daughter is 12 and I'm interested in getting her some period pants for when her period starts. Anyone got any experience with them? The Modibodi ones are REALLY expensive but I'm not sure if that means they're brilliant, Cheeky Wipes seem way cheaper but still expensive and I don't want to waste my money.

She's completely freaked out by the idea of tampons so a mooncup would never work, and she's so small that I think washable pads will be absolutely massive! She wears age 9-10 knickers atm.

We use the leak proof ones as back up - they are not meant to be used alone. They are good as my daughter is a heavy bleeder but will only go to the toilet at school during breaks to change her pad and has leaked through before.
We haven't tested the ones that say they can be used instead of pads or tampons but can't quite get my head around them - surely you'd have to change them a few times a day? And I think you can only hand wash and air dry, meaning youd have to have quite a number of pairs.

I have just ordered ModiBodi from the sales for myself and for my daughter in readiness for her period. The sizes start from 8-10 years so your daughter would be covered as well.

Will report back once I have tried them, my friends have been raving how comfortable they are so I have high expectations.

My daughter has cheeky wipes ones. She does wear a pad with them.

DD swears on her Modibodis, they work really well and are according to her very comfortable. I think the heavy overnight ones are only available in adult size but DD is a heavy bleeder in the first days, for the rest she uses the teen range.

She uses tampons for swimming, no way she would touch a cup but with only 12 I think she is quite young anyway.

I've been using the Modibodi vegan bamboo period pants for over 6 months now. They are incredible, even on heavy days. I would gladly pay more even though they are expensive. Zero waste periods and not having to worry how long your tampon has been in. Total game changer!

One pair of day pants then change into night pants should be adequate. They just keep holding the liquid! You rinse them out initially then can machine wash (no softener). I dry on radiator then pop onto a little indoor peg carousel to finish off.

They came into their own when I had to accompany a relative to hospital on my heaviest day and I was there from 7am until 9pm. Totally forgot I was on my period Smile

I'm going to give them a try I think, I've been meaning to for ages. I can't get that link to work thought @maggiemay1982 x

AppleJane · 30/04/2020 08:11

@Roomarmoset I think someone is posting false links. But modibodi are great, I no longer dread my period.

AppleJane · 30/04/2020 08:14

I'm pretty sure that most companies offer you a first time order discount when you sign up to them. You don't need a spammers link Smile

Roomarmoset · 30/04/2020 08:15

Thanks, just bought some 🤞🏻

AppleJane · 30/04/2020 08:28

@Roomarmoset that's great! Hope you love them as much as me. My DP calls them my black magic pants Grin

Come back later and let us know how you get on!

Roomarmoset · 04/05/2020 16:05

@applejane
Very surprised I actually felt really comfortable. Very impressed so I bought a couple more pairs 😊

Naturemum81 · 21/05/2020 12:44

If you can make it work go for it it’s so much better for the environment, then move onto mooncup when they’re ready - but wonder if our girls will be so keen on the pants when they’re the ones washing them 😂

MeadowHay · 21/05/2020 12:49

I've only used Modibodis but they're fab. Been using them either on heaviest few days as back up with a tampon, then on later days using alone, and use the night time ones for over night. I've leaked out of the night time ones twice so far and been using them for about 6 months. I do bleed quite heavily too so I reckon that's pretty good.

coffeechocolatecoffee · 21/05/2020 12:56

I have Cheeky Wipes and a pair from Flux. Flux are more like Modibodi in terms of both absorbency and price and I would recommend them or Modibodi if using without a cup or additional pad. I can use Flux on my heaviest day/night without anything else and no leaks at all.

Cheeky Wipes are great value in comparison but I need to use my cup with them on heavy days then can use them alone once I'm past D3. As you don't know how her periods will be, I would probably start with a couple then get more after.

I think Modibodi, Flux, Wuka all go smaller sizes for younger girls too which would definitely sway me a bit more (I wear the smallest size Cheeky Wipes and I am a size 8).

@Roomarmoset
Sorry, I've only just seen your reply! So happy you like them, I'm still loving mine Smile

AlecOrAlonzo · 30/06/2020 22:08

I have modi bodi and cheeky wipes pants. The modibodi are excellent but expensive for a teenager who will perhaps change size so I understand your reluctance. The cheeky wipes are dreadful: don't waste your money.
