Nappies and wipes

So my baby is almost big enough to start using my stash of reusable nappies (I have about 20 of the pocket ones with various inserts and liners, but I have a few questions if anyone can help:

  1. Nappy bucket - obviously for dirty nappies, do I put anything else in there? Water? Cleaner?
  1. Liners - What is best for keeping moisture away from little bottoms? The paper ones seems easy to use but I have fleecy ones as well.
  1. Reusable wipes - I have a stack of wipes, how do people differentiate between ones used for bottoms and ones for faces? Colour coded? Assume they go in different washes?

Just need to get a system up and running and I’m sure it will be relatively painless but would appreciate anyone sharing how they do it,

Thanks!

  1. Long time since I did this, but I think the best way was to wait until the end of the day and then transfer all to a bucket of hot water with some bio washing powder. Then wring out and put in empty bucket. Wash when full load.
  2. No idea.
  3. I'm not very squeamish, so when I used them for grandchild, just chucked them in on very hot whites wash with towels. I use a mix of bio washing powder, soda crystals and Napisan for this wash. I know some people would want to wash them separately, but I can't care. I use muslin wipes for hands and faces and the towelling squares for nappy changing. The face wipes go in with other washing.

Generally, you want to be washing it all as soon as you can, but I only do full loads. When my kids were babies, I used terry squares and it didn't take long to make a full load. Not sure if the nicer ones you can buy now are more or less bulky.

No need to wet pail.

As to the wipes, I only wipe bottoms with the squares. I use microfibre cleaning cloths for hands and faces. Then put them on a hot wash with the towels and bibs.

As to the liners: when baby starts on solids, it's time to change from paper to fleece. Otherwise their poo isn't solid enough.
