Menstrual cup issues?

Thewindblows · 17/10/2019 06:07

I bought a Diva cup - chose size 2 based on their guide since I have 2 DC and am nearing 30.
I have tried using it and I simply cannot find a way that does not cause extreme discomfort. Further in and I get a deep period pain type ache (that is not there when I use a tampon). Any further out and it sort of sticks out and rubs.
Any suggestions? Do i just need to persevere? Try a smaller size?
I really want to make this work, not keen on the feeling of pads, so reusable pads not very appealing.

Smaller size. I had a mooncup and I chose the larger size due to 3 vaginal births but just never gone on with it, like you have that weird dull ache feeling. However I was recently given a Luna cup to review in the smaller size and it's so much better.

Ah great to know. Sounds like it's definitely worth a try then.

I couldn't get on with the mooncup at all. It kept leaking for me. I use a re-usable sea sponge now and it's fantastic.

Definitely try a different size, but also on mine I completely cut down the stem (and trimmed it so it was smooth on the base). Much more comfortable for me!

There are also some good guides out there if you haven't already seen them, eg:

Which might help decide what you need?

There’s a quiz you can do to help you choose the correct one which I found really helpful:

putacupinit.com/quiz/

It recommended the Lena Sensitive cup to me which has been great! Definitely try a different one and see how you get on. It takes a couple of cycles to get the hang of it but it’s worth it once you do!

Nothing to add to the excellent advice already posted. But would echo to keep trying - it’s so worth it when it works. I’m a big fan of my menstrual cup and would choose it over tampons or pads any day.

OverthinkingThis · 27/10/2019 08:14

I did the quiz that @lunasunshine mentioned and bought the one it recommended - worked really well for me!

Try ModiBodi period pants. They are just absorbable knickers so they don’t feel like a pad. They are truly amazing. I’ve worn a cup for years but now I’m all about the pants.

i tried a mooncup and no matter what I just couldnt get on with it. BUT I LOVE my reusable pads. So comfortable to wear ! Have just bought a few more, now I know how good they are (earthwise girls). Am looking at the sponges....

Butchyrestingface · 01/01/2020 21:58

I couldn’t even INSERT the mooncup. It kept twanging off my vagina (ouch!).

Eventually admitted defeat and bought reusable pads, which are perfectly serviceable, if not as good as the disposable ones.

I always have to cut off the little thing at the bottom as it hurts otherwise.

So glad to have found this thread - i'm not getting on with my mooncup at all. Will try the quiz and see how i get on.

Not getting on with a moon cup doesn't mean she won't get on with a diva, I don't like tampax but I like lillets. Def suggest the questionair.

comfypantsisme · 15/02/2020 21:34

i tried a mooncup last year. no matter what the thing just leaked! tried a different one £8 out of waitrose (dont know the name). no leaks. and it was cheaper.

I've tried a couple of different brands and sizes of menstrual cups and I just can't get on with them. I get the pain that the OP describes, I can't wee when it's in, I find it very uncomfortable to remove. After trying to get used to it for ages, I've just come to the conclusion that my body is the wrong shape. I really wanted for it to work, it would be a brilliant solution, I just don't think they suit everybody.
